That's about the last thing someone would do, if they want to invest against Bitcoin, and don't trust any exchange where you can short it.
Believing its a sham, even if correct is marginally valuable. Yet people do it all the time - ie market overvalued...going to get hammered. company overvalued, currency overvalued...you name it.
Whats more important is an understanding of the timing and events that will make everyone else realize it. Unless you feel theres imminent events that will expose your perceived truth, you will lose a lot of money betting against something waiting for a long term prediction to come true.
You do realise most people in this world are not tech savy? Bitcoin needs an regulated exchange like a bank for normal people to use, without that its hopeless.
Gold is the anti crypto by my estimation because if there's something that will put cryptos out of business, that's what it will be. However, I don't expect cryptos to become useless until governments have relaxed their monetary and banking restrictions and right now, governments don't appear to be heading in that direction. Cryptos remain the easiest way for people to transfer large sums across borders without government interference and that use case should keep them relevant for the foreseeable future.
Having said that, I do think they are overbought and there are a lot of people looking to get rich quick owning them. I expect a huge crash at some point sending bitcoin back below 10k, probably coinciding with the next big stock market sell off.
You can't really short bitcoin reliably. The bitcoin exchanges that have shorting are likely to go belly up if the bubble crashes, so you have large counterparty risk with a maximum upside of 100%. Not a good trade. You're out of luck for now.
CME and BAKKT futures are perfectly reliable ways to short without counterparty risk, and they're in contango so you get paid a nice premium for shorting. The only issue is you need to put up a lot of margin, but that's not a problem if you're not shorting an irresponsibly large amount.
