How can I market my business effectively and improve traffic?

Hi guys
My two business partners and I have a small business on the side that is based on the concept of a free to enter daily cash prize draw, supported by ads. I was hoping for some advice on how to increase traffic; any words of wisdom would be hugely appreciated. I'll hold off posting the URL for the moment until I'm sure I'm allowed to do so.
We launched in 2016 and we managed to grow the traffic to about 700-800 or so daily sessions by February 2017 (I know, not much, but our engagement is good with our pages per session at 10.7 over the course of the site's life, and an average session duration of 5 minutes).
There are a few other small businesses in this space, but I believe we have an edge because we focus on producing editorial (on money saving advice) that gives us a source of organic traffic that the other free lotteries don't have.
As I added more content to the site, the organic traffic grew, not spectacular by any means, but going in the right direction.

We also gradually grew social, referral and direct traffic. But the organic traffic was the key channel I could see working for us.
However in February or so last year, the site started to slow down and our developer could no longer work for us. It took us months to find a new developer, who we commissioned to remove a lot of bad code from the backend, which he did successfully. But the site was down for many months, hence the gap in the graph.
We started again in January 2018 and the organic growth is a lot slower than it was last year - almost nonexistant. I expected it to pick up to about 100 daily organic sessions in a couple of months, (which would have been around enough to beat the daily churn and move towards breakeven) but we're languishing.
The content we put up is contributed through PR and we try and get the companies that produce the content to retweet and share the social promotion we do, but it doesn't always happen. We've also achieved a few backlinks but not many.
Is this just a case of trying to get as much quality content on the site as possible to increase our domain/page authority, and social traffic or are there any other suggestions people have for growing the traffic?
