You said you made a lot of money playing poker - how much did you make career wise?

Ya this was in 2018 when Pokerstars got rid of all the rakeback and were a complete monopoly. You opened a chest and there was nothing in it.

I had a job at this stage, so really hadn't been playing poker or improving at all since 2012.

I was screaming at the top of my lungs that the changes that Pokerstars were making were a mistake and now GG Poker has come along Pokerstars is becoming a ghost town so it turns out that forecast was right.

The very odd time I would deposit 50 or 500 bucks to try a bankroll challenge for old times sake.

But, I've found that I can't even beat the games at all anymore.

With everyone giving out free information on Twitch and the fact that there's very little marketing from Pokersites now the games are just tough.

People can get in 10,000 hands of experience at zoom now in a single day.

You can't even table select anymore because there are seating scripts.

And there will be people with big egos saying its easy to beat online poker now.

It's not.

We know he is a micro player. So let's say he was playing 0.10/0.25 online and beat the game for 3 bb's per hour. He made 75 cents an hour and spent 12 hours per day doing this. He therefore spent much of his life making $9 a day. Probably $9 more than he is worth but there you are!

Beating .10/25 for let's say 4 bb gives you a dollar an hour in income.

You multi table and get in one thousand hands an hour that dollar goes up to 10 dollars.

You then get a good rakeback deal.

A tight player rakes 8 bb/100. If you have 50 percent rakeback you are making another 4 bbs.

So 10 dollar hourly goes up to a 20 dollar hourly.

OK, now we are getting somewhere.

So you earned 20 bucks an hour for 12 hours a day. You claimed to play loads, lets say 5 days a week. So you earned $1200 a week. How many years did you do this for? Lets say you did this for 45 weeks a year....5 years? Yet you have zero proof that you earned 270k from grinding at these levels? You have zero proof that you earned any money at all.

All we have is a rant in 2018 of you saying you broke even 'as usual'. You were very upset. Let's say you just put in 100k of that 270k in crypto. You would have millions and millions and millions....yet upset with Stars at their rake in the micro games?

Something doesn't add up.

I felt like Pokerstars were taking away the living of professional poker players with the changes they were making and it made me very upset.

There's more to life than money.

If you had made hundreds of thousands from poker and then millions from crypto, you wouldn't be grinding 0.10/0.25 after that. You would not be furious at the rake at these levels and you would not constantly talk about it online. As said, you are full of crap.

Well why does Warren Buffett, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Ray Dalio, why do all those people still go in to work every day.

I still haven't invested yet. Not sure where to put it and see risk everywhere. If this were not real money I would probably lump into ADA and ETH.

What are peoples thoughts on gold and silver? Silver has been flat for like 10 years! Doubt I will 5x in 5 years with that but maybe I should be satisfied with just not losing my money nowadays. Inflation is not good! In an ideal world inflation would be largely supply issues and the war in Ukraine. The wars ends soon and things get back to being much better. Maybe though, it is a combination of factors, we had Brexit in the UK, major money printing during the pandemic, added to the money printing due to the financial crisis (if all that indeed causes inflation?), plus the war which might not end any time soon.

I am usually tempted to add to my index funds but with rising rates and current conditions, this might not be great with stocks. Then again, with so many talking about a major depression, maybe that means one will not happen. Who knows!

Personally I think it's next to impossible to beat index funds from a passivity perspective - RE returns better but requires your time, so it matters what your time is worth. Ultimately if you have your own business usually investing back into the business is your best return.

He's not trying to beat the index funds passively. He's trying to make a huge short term bet with huge risk to 5x. It's most certainly -EV, but possible to get lucky in the short term.

Except his last post seemed like the goal has shifted to only beating inflation. Perfectly reasonable. 5x or break even. It's all the same
