The efficiency gains from scale seems pretty relevant to BFI.
Let's relate it back to healthcare. Have you ever purchased health insurance through a small company? I can't imagine them being able to compete - the fixed costs are considerable and the risk of them defaulting has to weigh in on your decision making.
I've had an inside look at some of the bigger insurance companies and they're pretty good at accounting for every dollar that goes in/out. This is the science of management. You incentivize people at all levels to streamline the process by cutting them a piece of the efficiency gains.
