99 out of 100 icos burn and crash. massive wealth destruction that takes months and years to unwind

while

1 ico develops into an app that becomes ubiquitous or frenzied, or whatever. maybe its a game. maybe its a social media app, maybe its a web browser.

what happens to price of eth?

The killer app comes out creating enormous value for, the creators of the app, the users and Eth speculators. Eth market cap is 1trillion. Why are the creators and users going to stand for the Eth holders eating into their value proposition when a competitor can do the same level of cryptography, decentralization, security for less cost? It's win/win/win everybody gets value but in the long-run the market will cut out the rent seekers.

Personally think the price of Ethereum will rise to new highs at some point but long term there are major question marks . Doesn't seem to be either decentralized or innovative?

Does something like this exist as smart contracts?

I'm interested in shorting some altcoins. I'm willing to enter into a smart contract with a willing counterparty at 2x or 3x leverage. Both of us deposit eth into the smart contract and it is settled daily. There would need to be some oracle that feeds prices into the smart contract.

Anyone seen a market or exchange that offers this type of financial contract? It seems like an obvious use case for Ethereum smart contracts and maybe I'm not searching with the right words on Google to find it.

You need a trustworthy oracle setup with good incentives, flexible smart contract possibilities, and a counter party that is willing to make the bet in Ethereum or whatever coin you're using, instead of the altcoin you are betting on.

Augur is not launched yet. Oraclize api is fairly easy to use btw. I'm playing with it atm.

I was hoping there would be an existing market out there already for betting against or for altcoins with ETH as the base currency.

The closest thing I've found so far is Ethlend. VariabL looks interesting, but it's still in Alpha. I think I'll just have to wait until the derivatives market is built and matures.

Thanks for posting this. I sold several eth the day you posted @~870 and made a blind stab at the bottom with a buy order for 801 (looked at depth chart but that's it). Order filled earlier today and were back to 820. Feels good to finally trade successfully (maybe? could still bottom further but looks good for now lol)

Disclaimer: Don't day trade if you're like me and have no idea what you're doing. The only thing that's saved my ass from stupid trades is that I also always hodl

Lol, I'm not concerned. I'm happy I sold some and got back in. Can never call the bottom or top but I'm hoping this is the bottom lol. realistically 600-650 very possible, 400-500 also in the cards. not betting any money on it though, just holding what I have
