Here you guys go...

For newbies:

Many cryptocurrencies, ICOs and presales have a great deal in common with Ponzi schemes, or are outright Ponzi schemes or frauds. They are not traditional investments and often guaranteed ways to lose money. Many are run by criminals and frauds as a way to get money from unsuspecting members of the public, and consist of nothing but empty marketing and promises. You can very easily lose your life savings getting involved in ICOs and presales. If you do wish to partake, please take extreme care and don't invest more than you can comfortably lose. People who post about presales and ICOs may have ulterior motives or actively be attempting to defraud others.

And on the flipside, getting in on the right ICO can be an insane windfall (ie the ICO for any of the current top 100). Place your bets wisely.

Soooo is there a centralized place to check out icos or do you have to go to the given tokens website or something else?

icodrops is my favorite of the ico sites since it only shows what seem to be more legit projects rather than the endless dozens of ultra crap ones.

Pinnacle Brilliance

https://pinnacle-brilliance.com/page6.html

I only have access to an iPad at the moment. Not sure if that's why I couldn't participate in this ICO as the buttons on the page to send BTC or ETH weren't working for me. Or maybe it's sold out already?
Maybe someone else could try. Looks very interesting.

I'm surprised I haven't heard of this before actually. Maybe a scam?

(copy+paste from what i wrote before)

i think alot of us are trying to find the next neo/stratis/iota ICO rather than buy something already in the top 20 that went 100x in the last few months. at least with some % of investment. i'm hoping this thread helps collectively push us toward projects that are actually solid, useful, and have alot of growth potential.

some useful stuff i've found so far:

icowhitelists.com. especially this page which shows which ICOs have gained popularity (by telegram following) in the last 24hrs and overall. acts as a hype-meter. telegram itself is presumably useful too but i haven't made an account there yet.
http://icowhitelists.com/telegram-tracker-tokens-icos/

youtube seems better for ICO advise than existing coin advise, people are more cautious/skeptical and seem more objective and don't simply claim every coin is headed straight to the moon
ian belina and ohheymatty (as suggested by the_jackal21 in altcoin discussions), cryptocrush, the cryptoniac, cryptobud occasionally. i'm sure there's more to add to that list.

twitter i'm sure there's a bunch of people to follow for ico guidance, but the only 1 i know atm is mcafee. would appreciate some more names from whoever knows.

reddit is 95% nonsense/spam from what i can tell.

--------

ok. disclaimer- i don't know what i'm doing and my opinions were mostly formed quickly. i bought into INS and bezop so far, and i'm looking at:

coinfi- "CoinFi offers crowdsourced and professionally curated research, analysis, trading signals, trading algorithms, and market-moving news to give cryptocurrency traders the real-time market intelligence needed to gain an edge."
looks like a good idea and ohheymatty did an long interview/ama with (ceo?) yesterday. even though i think it has a much lower ceiling than many other projects, i'll proly put a little on it if i don't find anything better. presale starts on the 15th, crowdsale 2nd feb.

nucleusvision- "Founded at Harvard University, Nucleus Vision is an IoT-based, contactless identification system that empowers retailers to identify and better serve their customers"
pre-existing company iirc and they have a bunch of big partnerships already. looks promising. ico date unannounced but should be Q1 2018.

gems (which currently tops telegram growth) just doesn't interest me for some reason.

props- don't remember what that is but according to my phone i was interested. sold out anyway.

right now im considering apex and polymath (free airdrop but im not sure theyre doing a public ico).

Initial public offering (IPO)

Quote:
Disadvantages

There are several disadvantages to completing an initial public offering:

- Significant legal, accounting and marketing costs, many of which are ongoing
- Requirement to disclose financial and business information
- Meaningful time, effort and attention required of management
- Risk that required funding will not be raised
- Public dissemination of information which may be useful to competitors, suppliers and customers.
- Loss of control and stronger agency problems due to new shareholders
- Increased risk of litigation, including private securities class actions and shareholder derivative actions

Investors cash in on web-based scams (23 March 2012)

Some people are putting money into online scams even though they know they are fraudulent, suggests research.

One of the first significant studies of cons known as High Yield Investment Programs (HYIPs) reveals that a small number of people are trying to use them as regular investment vehicles.

I did the REQ ico but didn't receive my tokens. Anyone had this happen before? Responses from their support takes months and so far haven't been helpful at all.

on the off chance, are you sure they weren't sent to your etherwallet and you just haven't added it as a custom token yet? the tokens could be there with no way to show the balance if you haven't added it to appear in the wallet.

aside from that, idk.

I've checked and double checked that REQ is added as a token. Also looked on the block explorer and some other thing which I forget. All say REQ balance is 0.

Mobius finished their pre-sale and the public token sale is coming up shortly. Positioning themselves as the dapp store of the future. The board members are more well known than the team, but these guys have the pedigree to succeed coming out of Stanford. Jed(i) is on the board which obviously means its a winner. 32,000 pre-sale investors cannot be wrong.

How does Mobius relate to Stellar and to the value of Lumens? I'm not familiar with it but have been meaning to look into it

"The Mobius API aims to allow all developers to connect and build on the blockchain ecosystem. "

"Mobius existing on the Stellar platform ensures these DApp’s can scale. Remember, Stellar can handle 1,000 transactions/sec, right now!"

"The Mobius API also allows access to other blockchains. For example, if a DApp creator wants users to remain anonymous, Monero or Zcash can be accepted. "

"ICO’s having the intentions of building on the Ethereum platform were unaware of network congestion and scalability issues... The solution might be the Mobius API and acceptance that Ethereum is not too big to fail."
