This is not to start a discussion on Trump or whatever, I just want to highlight that this legendary conference (at least to me it was legendary) now has officially aged poorly.

Back then the worst affected countries in the world were sitting close to 500 death per million, now the world is sitting over that number (>600) and we have multiple countries in the >3000s and a ton in the >1500s.

I know the data is of limited value given differences in reporting tactics, but I still find it very interesting
10-16-2021 , 05:35 AM
Also does someone have some good information regarding what is happening in Eastern Europe? A lot of countries are rising very fast and already sitting at >10 deaths per million per day now, numbers not seen anywhere else in the world for a while now (=meaning rising rapidly and at a very high level of deaths already).

Bulgaria, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lithuania, Romania are all at >10 deaths per million per day and rising rapidly. Especially Romania is suffering a massive spike and sitting at 16 deaths per million per day.

Do you still fire them?

Practically speaking, the only decision you have is just to play chicken with as many of them as possible and then manage the covid situation. Firing people en masse doesn't get the remainers to vaccinate.
where I live, its a small percentage of health care workings (I believe less than 5%) and at the same time they are starting to give 10-20k bonuses to nurses for all their hard work over the past 20 months. Unvaccinated wont qualify of course. Carrot+stick.

Ponty,

I just don't get how there is so little push to accommodate prior infection. I mean, how many nurses are there that have managed to dodge infection by now? That # has to be tiny. I completely agree there is a ton of nuance to everything covid, the Jeff Tiedrech tweet is the opposite of that.
We're firing you in the name of science despite us not being willing to accommodate prior infection and test you for antibodies. This isn't hard to do either.

How do you actually think you can get a real risk benefit analysis when your risk is 1/100,000+ from the disease?
By a trial with 2500 people in it???

So one could be a 22 year old cop, who got infected some point in the past, still shows fat antibody bars, who's friend got the vaccine and myocarditis, so then get fired and dunked on by Jeff.

I live in TN. We have about 50% vaxx in our county. Somehow delta is rapidly declining now, like a lot of places in the south. Why? Well for ****ing starters it doesn't have nearly as many nodes available to spread to. LOTS of people have had prior infection. It's the most anti science thing I've ever seen. And anyone with an IQ of 100 and hasn't had their brain rotted by political bias can see right through it.

Yes there's MORONS out there who need to get vaccinated who haven't been infected and are at higher risk for a bad outcome. But as time marches on it's very difficult to actually go out in society and not have antibodies via vaccine or infection (I have both btw!! live Delta booster).
I think if there is little resistance I could very well need a vaccine booster to fly on a plane in the near future or play the WSOP

Maybe the logic is people with prior infection will at some point in the future lose their immunity and require vaccination for protection. But I doubt the mandates are based on logic more than favorable political optics. Not sure if it's still true, but most European countries considered prior infection within last 6 months == vaccine for tourism purposes.

Mass reopenings and slow vaccine rollouts.

I’m getting the feeling you might not know what Bayes is or how to use it? Sort of the high school example is you have 2 large vats of paper. One has 80% red slips and 20% blue slips. The other has 50% red and 50% blue. You pick a vat at random and pick a slip out of it. If it’s red what are the chances you got the 80% vat? If you draw again and it’s blue what are the chances now? If you can answer that I think you won’t really have any questions about how it applies here. Its not magic...if you wildly disagree on prior probabilities to a massive degree Bayes won’t magically save you.

I watched that Rogan podcast.

What exactly did Gupta do or say that was douchey?

I thought he and Rogan really got along and had reasonable discussions and give and take on the points they covered.

Quitting and being fired are very different things. Playing a little switcheroo is either dishonest, some impressive gymnastics, "sloppy", or stupid

Healthy people needing a vaccine among an 85% "vaccinated" population that has a 99.9% survival rate isn't exactly "science", it's extreme neuroticism. We've all seen the tables with people in their 20's, right? If we include people with prior infection and antibodies, now were are out in bizarro cult mentality, definitely not "science". Now we are dealing with lightning strike risk posing a threat to pass along the flu to those that have refused a vaccine and are generally also at very low risk.

Perhaps instead of playing neurotic hall monitor and calling it "science" we could all just move on with life and let people live. Those that want to lick public toilets seats can let it rip and those that are terrified and obsessed with controlling others can take a time out and isolate or load up on PPE and boosters

My guess is that the vaccination isn't all that it was cracked up to be. That said I still believe in the vaccination and am happy I got it. But I don't think anyone who thinks it is bullshit is out of line. And I can be sure if I had natural immunity (ie prior infection) I wouldn't go anywhere near this experimental procedure.
Gupta knows his employer is crafting and spreading narratives. Poor guy got put on the spot. You can see just how awful the media is throughout the process but having lemon completely gaslight the audience and gupta play along after the rogan interview was the cherry on top.

Obviously this type of propaganda is effective, we've had a complete moron or 2 parroting this horse narrative like tourette's victims throughout the thread

Interesting conversation

No offense personally but this is thoughtless. It's possible for one to be pro-vaccine but anti-vax-mandate. Saying cops, teachers, and health care workers don't care about public well-being is an absurd slap in the face.

Im one of those pro vaccine against vaccine mandate and if you reread the post , you will get it as nothing to with caring about public well-being .
There is a conflict about the nature of those jobs and not being vaccinated .

Is that conflict enough to require being fired ?
That is a personal opinion.
Is democracy a good tool to resolve this to reach a common ground of social acceptability by a majority on both sides ?
Seem to me that is how democracy works .

Im still against vaccine mandate for Covid 19 .

Let's just throw the cops out of this because Frankly nobody agrees with the cops on anything. For fun let's replace cops with phd's.

Now we have (the willing to be ostracized) healthcare providers, educators, and phd's all showing some vaccine hesitancy. We also have Billy the garbage man who's double vaxxed and snuck into CVS for a booster prior to approval.

We all agree Billy's the guy that knows science right?

I dont get why so many people cant differentiate "some" from "all".

If 90% of MDs get vaccinated and 10% dont, it actually does tell you something, but not what you are implying.

ps. In the province where I live 97% of physicians got 2x vaxxed
10-17-2021 , 09:24 AM
All was a poor word choice used to combine the three categories of professionals. It was not meant to imply all of the people. It's blatantly obvious that not all of the people in each category are vaccine hesitant.

If 97% got vaxxed the percentage that were hesitant could have well been over 20% but the coercion to take this vaccine is unlike anything we've experienced before.

None of that was really the point though. We've reached the point where Twitter randos think we should just do away with professionals they don't agree with and everyone jumps on the bandwagon like it's a great idea.
10-17-2021 , 09:33 AM
Maybe avoid taking Twitter randos too seriously. Look at the accounts the person a few posts above linked. Click on Covid-1984 or Young Americans for Liberty's account (heh on their user names) and give an assessment of those people's expertise and opinions for instance.

This thread was filled with people who dismissed actual scientists with expertise in this area in favor of themselves or people with a Botany degree or that wrote an article for Nature magazine or the "Young Americans for Liberty." This is just the way a lot of people absorb and repeat information these days, so if you want to ignore the randos that say get rid of all doctors emotionally, then you should also ignore the randos that scream about their own research being better than those trained in the fields. Suggesting that here tends to make people upset, hence why so many past posters here had to leave after having mental breakdowns.
10-17-2021 , 09:49 AM
The US is now at 57% vaxxed but 83% have antibodies.

What happens 3 months down the road when the CDC says 99% have antibodies but only 65% have been vaxxed? Do we continue the firings? Increase the coercion? Continued passports?
