I am looking to diversify my portfolio.

BABA is like their local AMZN in early stages.

From what I've read BABA looks like a winner long-term.

is there an argument that chinese economy should now be recovering strongly?....

whereas other economies, esp usa and uk, have a long way to go. USA and UK have no curvature in their epi graphs. most other countries have alot of curvature.

and of course emerging markets have underperformed USA pretty consistently since 2007. or maybe 2010. but very consistently

Yeah I was thinking about purchasing this a while ago.

Makes me even reconsider idea of purchasing BABA.

Bigger company = better connections, bigger bribes... much of finance reports could be fake.

The timing for investing in anything based in or owned by China is very bad now. It's certain now that their withholding of covid information has cost the rest of the world an immense amount of money already, and the news is just getting worse this week as more information comes out. They are also getting new scrutiny on their communist government now, which most of the world abhors but has largely ignored in recent years due to money.

I think long term China's economy has more strong growth left but I'd stay away for a while.

i've been shorting them but have stopped because the public keeps buying assuming this will be over soon and can get them at a discount

alibaba platforms are not user friendly at all. Its the wild west of ecommerce. it wont scale like amazon did until they improve the entire infrastructure/ecosystem

pinduoduo has a unique business model. It can be copied though but it has high growth and still only a 50bil company.

JD.com is the amazon of China, Alibaba is more like GE with a finger in every pie and a massive amount of money coming in via financial services

like alibaba has a movie studio and owns hospitals and stuff

I think they will get struck down in court if challenged.
Tik Tok may get sold but i think it will be a one off. The ramifications
of shutting down Wechat are too broad and unconstitutional (free speech)
I know little about shorting but it seems the opportunity would be
there regardless of the eventual outcome.
