On the CBOE, why do all the XBT (bitcoin) contracts show 0 open interest? Can someone explain how to read these please?

Compare this to shorting where I have to deposit all my $ for my position and leave on the exchange indefinitely. You can use margin to mitigate this risk somewhat, but then you run the risk of being liquidated in the short term. No institutional money that wants to short bitcoin is going to be willing to take a risk like trusting bitfinex with $50M especially if they don't believe in bitcoin, why would they believe in bitfinex? So no, true shorting has not really been available until recently.
Thanks for clarifying this.

Maybe they only get updated daily, they haven't even been trading 24 hours.

Is it possible to buy IOTA with Bitcoin Cash directly on Bitfinex? Or do I have to transfer it to Bitcoin then back to IOTA?

Does this make it expensive?

The transfer to coinbase finally went through, sold half of it to lock in a nice ~$2500 of play money, will maybe hodl the rest for some gamboool. Should I diversify and put some of the BTC into ETH?

If you place a limit buy order on gdax say at 15000 does it just sit there until filled? And then you can cancel anytime?

It's interesting that today has been the lowest volume day on GDAX in months, and price is pretty flat (for bitcoin).

Gdax is currently down for matinence. It’s still highly speculative and could break big in one direction or another.

Edit:looks like it’s back up now.

Do you guys think volatility has ended now that CBOE is now live? Is the price fully factored in even with CME set to launch futures on Monday? Do you think the same will happen Saturday/Sunday before CME opens? What are the chances BTC's price will drop down again before CME opens? Lastly, is market manipulation of BTC possible? Based on what I've read it doesn't seem like it will happen.

I found this from WSJ: "CME says it has taken steps to combat manipulation. The index that underpins its futures contract is based on trades executed over a one-hour period each day, with anomalous trades tossed out. CME also is working to add more bitcoin exchanges to its index, a CME spokeswoman said." https://www.wsj.com/articles/bitcoin...hes-1512907201

So with that being said, what uncertainty is there left regarding Bitcoin Futures. Doesn't that above quote clearly show that CME will not let any abnormal trades happen making manipulation impossible?

Wow, so your example was a guy who actually bought low and sold high over and over and you thought that illustrated somebody losing money. Thanks for your meaningless contributions, genius. Maybe your 11-year old niece (note the hyphen placement) can help you with your basic cognition problems.

That was for less than 10 minutes. It's been trading all day long, just low volume. The flat, quiet day doesn't seem related to maintenance. They do have a maintenance window scheduled 12 hours from now, however.

Currently 45k BTC past 24h. It was usually in the 18-25k range from 8k and up. What numbers are you working with?

Roger Ver pumping Bitcoin Cash hard, trashing bitcoin on fast money on CNBC.

He just all out trashed core, exaggerated quite a bit and sang the praises of low fees and instant transactions with bitcoin cash (BCC) (BCH).

Is he right. Is BCC really that much better. Could the BCC network handle the volume that Bitcoin has with the same security? Is this all out war. I sold some alts to buy BCC to stay hedged because i dont know enough about this to have an opinion. I am just about 1 to 1 BCC BTC.

Anyone else here feel they need to hedge? I also have lite coin that I have been holding for a while.

Right now
35,000 BtC
5,300 LTC
2,800 BCC
2,200 ETH

I have a few other alts but really small postions. They have not done well against BTC

IF you want a coin with a weaker DEV team, unclear scaling roadmap, and potentially massively centralized, then sure...buy BCash (marketing coin).

BCash is only "better" because it's much smaller and hasn't reached a point where scaling issues would matter. Bitcoin is superior in pretty much every other way.

Roger Ver is just pumping his own cryptopolitical agenda. He can very safely be ignored.

Probably break your portfolio down into %s for future reference.
