Hey guys. I use electrum to store my bitcoins. I read that because of the bitcoin fork, electrum should be fine. Can someone confirm this? The other thing is im using electrum version 2.8.3. There is a new version 2.9 out.

Do i need to download this new version or not? I read that if u don't, then you aren't getting any Bitcoin cash? Is that true/false? The thing is with electrum, when you start it up, you don't get a message that says there is a new version... do you want to download? So im sure lot of people with electrum wallets probably are still using the old version of 2.8.3 right? Because the thing is unless you check the electrum website daily, then many times you are going to use the older version right?

Thanks.

Electrum is fine. Just dl the new version and it'll still have your old bitcoin.

careful using those shorts as any meaningful measurement.

people are borrowing btc rn without a position because they expect to receive BCC at the fork associated with the btc they borrowed.

they can be returned at any point without any impact on price.

Hi.

Looks like I'm spreading misinformation here. I no longer believe what I wrote is factually correct

Why not? Do you mean because borrowers need to return the bcc as well?

BCC / BCH futures are still dropping... how quickly will this drop to less than $100 as everyone sells? https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin-cash/

For anyone trying to safely access their BCC, this is the process I am using.

Step1: Prefork, consolidate your coins into a new burner wallet with new private keys/seed. This private key/seed will be entered into new, potentially untrusted software, so you should not use them again after dumping. Do this so that you can continue using your current wallet after the fork, otherwise you will have to remake backups, etc.

Step 2: Postfork, move your BTC coins back into your original wallet. Because BCC has replay protection, your BCC will remain on the burner wallet, while all your BTC will be on your original wallet.

Step 3: Install a BCC wallet (e.g., electron cash) on a machine that does not have your current BTC wallet installed (consider a VM or other laptop). Enter your burner private key into this wallet. Now you have access to your BCC and can transfer it to exchange and sell.

Is there a reason you can't just put it on Kraken, or a similar exchange that will automatically provide BCH once it's available?

http://blog.kraken.com/post/1150/bit...argin-traders/

I would rather have the BCH available immediately to sell instead of waiting to transfer and missing out on good rates.

I've been using this for the past few days and done really well. The rates are absolutely insane, it's like running a payday loan store.

Yeah if you wanna buy bitcoin, after coinbase opens up bitcoin buys again from there to something like trezor or electrum is good.

I've bought all my bitcoin from coinbase, have 0 on there fwiw.

There are some things happening today in the bitcoin world where it'd be better for you wait at least a week before putting any $ into bitcoin and in the meantime do some research and due diligence before speculating.

Solid advice! You aren't getting on the Bitcoin Cash train at this point, so just wait out the turmoil and read up on the market history of Bitcoin - it is pretty resilient. Need to be prepared for some serious ups and downs, though! HODL!

Where can you sell Bitcoin Cash for other cryptocurrencies? Is there some kind of Shapeshift/Changelly or another exchange that doesn't need much verification where I'd be able to immediately sell it?

Already sold my BCH crap coin at Kraken. Glad to see BTC's price has largely remained unchanged as I expected. Looks like everyone is just going to dump BCH and move money back into their previous currencies.
