That's not something an early adopter looking to make money would do.

I read earlier there was a transaction in the block explorer of ~450,000 BC which was attributed to MtGox moving the users funds around. If 500,000 BC was really sold this looks like MtGox got hacked?

Yeah... I have a charter, and it's bounced off zero a whole bunch of times.

Let's just say there's an alarming amount of financial ignorance in the btc markets right now.

Yeah, I can't imagine that someone who acquired so many coins would be foolish enough to sell so ******edly, unless they know something we don't like a dupe exploit or some flaw in the fundamental structure of btc.

If MtGox was hacked, an attacker could theoretically transfer all BC to their wallets, then create the sell orders. The MtGox BC balances are just promises. They could of done this just to cover their backs, cause confusion as they disperse their wealth into multiple wallets?

If they have stolen the BC already then the selloff wasn't real as it isn't backed by any actual BC. If this has happened then it's not good news for MtGox.

If anyone wants to do bitcoin for PayPal, let me know, I'll pay a generous vig. Obviously you'd need to ship first, but I have tons and tons of references for successful cash trades on poker sites.

The thing is, if any of their trades are automated, it might have honored some of those 0.01 trades.

Hopefully no one withdrew the bitcoins they bought at ridiculously cheap prices before Mt. Gox pulled the plug, because then Mt. Gox can just reset the market to before the selloff.

Otherwise it probably spells the end for Mt. Gox.

If someone hacked the db and gave themselves 500k btc balance, they are not legit trades.

Tux could revert to a backup or undo trades from a certain point forward

I mean, it's clearly not DDOS, that's now what DDOS does. Someone clearly has control over his system, he needs to hire some security experts if he wants to maintain the top dog in the bitcoin exchange world.

What does that mean though? As Freakin said, if they aren't legit trades they should be able to reverse them with no harm done to anyone.

MtGox is generating tons and tons of revenue, they can get some experts in there to help with security.

If it was hacked on gox then they are done, probably.

Hacked offline and deposited... Different story.
