If you really want to short a stock, there are much better prospects available. Your position is straight gambling (with poor odds).
I did the same trade when apple stood at 500. I know what I am doing. Do you even know my other positions?

Anyway thanks for your arrogant reply

Re: Apple discussion thread

Sorry for the newb question... but does anyone know what AAPL's dividend announcement this morning is going to mean for the company?

1) How will dividends effect the company's market cap?
2) What about its stock price?

I heard some funds are not allowed to invest in companies that don't pay dividends... does this mean that there will now be a surge of funds dumping $$$ into AAPL?

Doesn't mean he was rational. He clearly wasn't.

Depends. Apples dividend isn't exactly enticing - so what matters more then anything else is the ability to maintain cash flow to support the dividend over time.

Apples dividend was priced such that they can maintain it for quite awhile even if cash flow goes down.

At $2.65 Per Share, Apple To Become One Of Largest Dividend Payers In The U.S.
This is the stupidest headline ever, it seems like its pointing out the dollar value per share rather then the yield. Most fools will get excited at $2.65/share before they realize it costs $600 just to buy one.

1.8% is hardly anything to write home about. The yield on the Dow itself is about 2.3%

ha! whatd you get in at? and how long are you holding?

i originally wanted to start holding all my stocks for 1 year+ for capital gains tax rate, but i think selling aapl off might be a good idea soon.

Re: Apple discussion thread

aapl should take some of that dividend/stock buy back money and purchase NYT (current market cap is at 1 billion .) , you get the nyt , boston globe and about.com to be able to run and sell print ads , (and also making the level floor of the nyt building on 40th and 8th avenue an apple store.

Re: Apple discussion thread

of course the nyt shareholders wont approve a buyout at 1 billion, so maybe 2-2.5 billion.

i wish Apple would just buy instagram so i could just use the native camera app instead of two different camera apps. Plus seems like it would help solve their social problem.

Does anyone know how low the price of AAPL was during it's mini flash crash today. It seems like all of the charts out there just delete the flash crashes.

I guess to answer my own question it looks like it was 590 then almost instantly back up to 596.

Also it looks like the other day it fell to 575 then almost instantly went back to 585.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like those are huge moves (same difference of a $58 stock going to $57 then back to $58) in the matter of a few seconds.

There was one trade for 100 shares at $540 and change today, then they halted the stock for a few minutes. It's part of the new automatic protection program (the halting) but kinda too little too late for that guy, no idea if it'll be reversed or not.

The flash crashes are a result of HFT, not sure the exact reason beyond that.

lol, stupid media dumbasses like cnbc misuse phrases and misrepresent what happened.

liqudity is provided via ecn's. The company bats, has 2 of the major ecns, bats and batty.

Bats recently became an exchange, and their ipo today was the first major one on their own exchange. At 10:45am when bats was supposed to come in, their system just got ****edddddd.

They then declared self-help versus everyone and as such people stop putting bids and offers in on bats and batty because orders get stuck and it's just ****ed up.

Someone must've tried to sell stock on batty, and after filling most of their order at the current price on other venues (ty reg nms), they hit the highest batty bid for their last 100 shares which was at 542.80.

Due to the stupid circuit-breaker rule, the stock was halted for 5 minutes, then came in business as usual.

The reason you don't see the print is because the trade was broken, since breaks for stocks over $50 are 3%.

There is a MASSIVE difference between a stock trading down to a price, and someone hitting through 50 points on an ecn.

This is a complete nonevent that is only talked about because wtf else are those idiots going to fill their time with.

Re: Apple discussion thread

Does anyone know the dates for Apple's 2012 quarterly earnings announcements?

Also, I know that each company has a different schedule for quarterly earnings, and I was wondering if there was a site that allowed me to see all of the different companies announcement dates?
