I recently join an Angel Investing group. I've also listened to "Angel Investing: The Gust Guide to Making Money and Having Fun Investing in Startups" as an Audio book.

I am going to try and make my first small Angel investment in Jan. I intend to make a small investment (Probably $10K as that is the minimum) and get my feet wet.

What have other people's experiences been in Angel Investing? Any big successes on this board or horror stories?

Initially I am going to do my due diligence and mostly follow a few other big investors. At least this way I know that the bigger investor will be able to supply more capital to the company and assuming they produce their product, they are less likely to go bankrupt due to having a backer with deep pockets.

Interested in following this discussion. Its an area I would like to get into in the future, but that i know little about right now! Stories/perspectives from people with experience would be great.

Was that book good @OP?

Praetor,

I thought the book was very good. He goes through his methodology and what he likes to see and the questions he asks. He has a lot of good stories that he uses to illustrate his points.

I have a few other books on the topic, but I have put them on my reading list which is pretty long at the moment that I am very very slowly making my way through.

Not the best form of investing from my experience. I couldn’t find the actual numbers but from my experience I’d be suprised if more then 5% of investments return a profit at angel stage without additional funding available. (Majority of angel investors fund series a as well so 20-30% is rediculous and skewed as capital required to achieve that is 10x) If you’re not involved in future funding you’d get diluted unfavorably as well so I don’t see how it could be profitable unless you severely outperform other investors.

Why would you go into this field? Typically it’s designed for people who were incredibly successful through startups and want to give back to the community/give opportunities to likeminded individuals.
