Robert Kiyosaki is closely tied with MLM **** now. So, yeah, setting you up to be scammed basically.

Seems to be a lot of uncertainty according to the internet whether or not this Kiyosaki guy is legit. i mean he was involve in Amway which I feel like is pretty much an insta-qualifier for the "scammer" tag.

it's either a scam or it's something legit that isn't going to be worth your time anyway

ARE YOU READY FOR AN EXCITING NEW OPPORTUNITY? PASSIVE INCOME 4 EVER? they pitch you bull**** like this and the idea of financial independence and freedom and early retirement...

you may actually be able to make money from it. i know one person who does it and i've been recruited several times to partake in similar things. it's not worth your time unless you drop everything, focus fully on it, and are willing to bull**** people to no end and suck them in to the mill you've now become a cog of the machine in. for all that you might as well just go into sales and crush it there instead of all that overcomplicated nonsense

Bizarre. I just stumbled across this thread and the exact same thing happened to me about eight months ago, I mean exactly.

Ran into a guy at the movie theater where my office was doing a promotion. Chatted with a older gentlemen and we ended up setting up a meeting at a coffee shop a couple days later to discuss a business opportunity. I was very skeptical but the guy was nice enough so I decided to see what it was all about. During the meeting he asked me similar questions, we chatted about random stuff, and at the end he gave me the same book "The Business of the 21st Century". He said to read it over the weekend and we would meet again Monday to discuss further. I met him again on Monday after reading the book and realizing it was network marketing and said i wasn't interested. We chatted for another twenty minutes and went our separate ways.

I'm assuming there is some sort of seminar that is teaching this process to get people underneath you in the pyramid.

Here is another similar story I found on reddit. This process is definitely being taught as a way to attract people below you in a pyramid.

Rich dad poor dad is a book everyone should read. He is a very weird caracter thought. Ah, how the mighty have fallen.

I don't know who said it but the guy saying OP should be mentoring them is 100% right. Not worth your time, keep doing what you're doing.

So I figure its not fair of me to think of this as this mentor "setting me up to be scammed". I assume he's poured an abundance of time and energy into his network marketing and is trying to build a large network for himself. Fair enough. I suppose the whole process of recruiting new members is a bit deceptive overall, depending on which company you are representing and what you're true intentions are, but I can't really assume that he was malicious in intent.

"The Business of the 21rst Century" was a pretty easy read and I took a few things from it. I really didn't like Kiyosaki's categorizing of the "four quadrants"

E for employee S for small business owner B for big business owner and I for investor.

He just absolutely ****s on the E and S quadrants and gives absolutely no credit to either of them. I think there needs to be some credit given where credit is due. I supposed I am a bit biased, being in the S quadrant, but he makes it sound like you're no better off here than in the E quadrant and that you can't build a fortune this way and create freedom for yourself. I think you can build a ton of assets in the S quadrant, and go from the S to the I without having to pass through the B, obviously.

I also don't understand why the B quadrant is a business owner who has "500 or more employees". I understand his point, but where did the 500 number come from? What if you have 100 employees? or 250? You're still just a measly S quadrant man with no hope for financial freedom? It seems arbitrary to me.

In the end I took a cordial approach to the situation. I told the mentor that I read the book but decided network marketing would not be suited for me to get involved with at this time, so I'd return his book and not attend the scheduled conference call with him and the next mentor. He was friendly in his response and didn't even ask me why I wasn't interested and asked if he could possibly get in touch with me next time he was around town. Fair enough.

that's because it IS arbitrary bull****. # of employees doesn't mean anything. the only reason this book was suggested to you, it seems to me, is because it's trying to get you to lend credence to the focus on # of employees rather than the obvious metric anyone in business should ever give a **** about, net profit. almost positive now he just wanted you to join a MLM company like ACN. it's not a scam, but they do sort of try to manipulate how you think about MLM so you get excited about the potential

they make it sound like you own your own business and the way MLM works is if you get a bajillion people to buy in to what you buy in to you get residual income that grows if you find enough people to buy in. so # of "employees" is actually the metric that makes you more money in general. it's not actually a business per se, but they make it sound like one and try to get you to think it is like one where at the end of it all you get to rub teh moniez on your titties. most people who get involved never follow through so if it's a company like ACN you usually have to pay $500 or some amount to get started. that's how they get you whether you follow through or not. whether you want to make something of it is up to you

i've always said **** no to every approach made to me. it's actually annoying to hear certain phrases and immediately know exactly what random old friend i haven't seen in a while but is now suddenly interested in meeting for a drink is up to

MLM is for people who are so bad at regular sales that they pay for the chance to sell.
