All new homes in California and apparently apartments will have to have solar panels starting in 2020 it looks like. This could be real big for small companies that get contracts. I'm still long TAN and RUN and looking. What are the best plays on this news?

Nice call dude, the volatility in this sector continues provide nice entry points & the ability to lock in profits by selling upside calls as well.

Nice work, Jupiter. I have liked RUN for a while now - difficult to tell what % of the upswing was contributed to the Cali news but a sell here might be something to ponder. To be honest, with how I've seen news like this pan out (in my eyes), I wouldn't be against/probably in favor of taking a short-term (30 day short here). Choose your own adventure of course, but I feel RUN can run into some conflicting non-related issues that will pull it down a bit.

Perhaps mrbaseball would know, but how would one bet on rising pork prices nowadays? Pork belly futures are not a thing anymore IIRC.

Pork bellies went bye bye years ago. But Lean Hogs still trade at the CME under commodity symbol HE.

Hogs can be tricky! When I was arbing the basket of commodities years ago against the GSCI (Goldman Sachs Commodity Index) I remember one dark day during the rollover where my hog spread went limit up on my short leg and limit down on my long leg of the spread. That was a particularly bad day

Possibly got in 1 day early, but with today's 8-K filing, I feel like I crushed it with MCD.

GE holy cow... Might sell my MCD calls and sell some GE LEAP calls.

I sadly had CRSP from the 12s and sold it around 19. Also had and sold EDIT which is chasing the same play and hasn't had as positive a run. Both are probably great long-term buy and holds for a biotech play in a health/pharma/bio part of a portfolio.

CRSP long term may be overrated other than a buyout.
The technology is probably years away from practical use.

I am going to look to buy some more AAPL long term and just hold. I was looking at GBTC to hold a btc position through a more traditional manner

Why??? The market is going to crush it long term. It's nearly a trillion dollar company, markets for its products are saturated, it's a luxury good that's run up on a 10 year improving economy and has never seen the bite of a recession.

You're basically taking high risk, low return on a non-diversified company. That's crazy.

Think its multiple is low. It is buying back shares, large investors are coming in and it might acquire more companies with higher upside. Its not my only position

Apple Watch is the largest 'watch company' in the world. iPad still the most profitable tablet in the world.
If they invest in health, they could be well diversified.
I'd spread my bets though.

Not the best timing on Apple:

Maxim Downgraded Apple, Said Sees FY19 Being A Down Year, Cited Smartphone Market Now Being In Decline

IDC says smartphone shipments are forecast to drop 0.2% in 2018 to 1.462 billion units, which is down from 1.465 billion in 2017 and 1.469 billion in 2016.

I mean, we're at the end of a 10 year run on:

- A massive expansion cycle that led from zero smartphones to a 1 billion smartphones/year being shipped.
- A monopoly on high end phones with beautiful aesthetics
- A touchscreen first mover advantage
- An expanding global economy during an up business cycle (which is pretty much all that matters for high premium mainstream luxury good sellers)

You might have another good year or two. You might not. Either way it's a dumb buy - a trillion dollar company that makes its earnings on 40% margins with no real moat in a market that's peaked and has stopped growing after a decade of explosive growth.
