Everyone thinks you need to spend years learning how to deal with each different spot, 'what do I do with AK vs a 4 bet in position vs a tight reg with Cbet of ...'. Poker isn't like that, it's just a game. In football would you have to learn how to kick a ball from every angle dependant on every defenders position, no, you just work it out as you go along, all you need to know is that the aim of the game is to get the ball in the goal.

The aim of poker is to make money. This splits into two types of money. The money we make by getting the opponent to fold a stronger hand than ours. And.. The money we make by getting the opponent to put money in the pot with a weaker hand than ours.

To do this you need to know what cards the opponent has. In your head you have to create an image of allll the cards that you think he may have. So if somebody says to you, what's a 14% range, you can imagine AK-AJs, all PPs n maybe the odd 89s.

Once you can do that you need to start considering the future in our initial goal of making money. This translates as, how often will we need to protect against his range. And... How often we want to build a pot for a bigger win against his range.

If you can do that you will now be on about £15 an hour

The next phase is to understand that the opponent is doing all the above, this means we have to give ourselves a range too.

Well done, your now on £40 an hour.

The final phase is to play clever poker. You now know the actual game called poker and instead of just kicking a ball against a wall you are on the pitch. Get creative and disguise your range, play to your strengths, have a head massage. Perhaps you should look up strategies on each individual spot.
