Why do video/coaching sites cost so much? Why do video/coaching sites cost so much?

I recently thought about purchasing an account at one of the various sites, however, I'm amazed at the rate they want per month.

I suppose it's pocket change to a lot who play really high limits and benefit from those stakes videos, but to me as still a beginner microstakes player it's a huge hit my wallet (collegestudentlol). If I had the bankroll or money I'd definitely buy 6 months on all the major sites to soak up.

Only reason I thought about it was because of the vast knowledge I gained by recently watching bigbabyjesus' MSNL videos, they helped me a lot and I realized I'm more of a visual learner by example than by reading (i.e. books but I've read a good amount).

These sites are probably the highest value for the training provided in any area of just about any market in the world. Building a small BR can usually be done with cheap or free resources, so I'm sure it'll be no time before you're laughing that one month of your subscription costs less than half of a buy in or something- and the impact on your winrate is so much more significant.

i totally understand why sites cost decent $$$. i def. think they could even charge more. the thing i don't get is the sign up fee. i would def. join more sites if they sign up fees weren't so rid.

I thing the OP answered his/her own question in the last paragraph of the post.

When you think how much it would cost you $ wise and time wise to learn all these things that are being taught in the vids, it is a shortcut and money saving cut if you look at the bigger picture as a whole.

It might take you 1 year and 100s of hours playing time to suss out just a couple of the things you could learn from studying the vids for a couple of hours, Ok, this might sound a little simplistic but its generally not far from the truth.

I believe we have a banner going up about this if not already up . . . the monthly dues vs. the rate that we publish videos averages out to about .65 cents per video.

I realize not all videos might apply to everyone's game but the value proposition is still quite high.

Before I signed up, I was like "why are they so expensive?"
After I signed up, I was like "why are they so cheap?"

People would get 1 month, watch all vids, then leave.

Between these two figures

Gain in EV of subscribers + Loss of EV from coaches

They probably should be a lot more.

i see what you're getting at, but new videos come out all the time, so i don't think that would be as big an issue

Same concept, some people would just create an account, dl every video they could find. Wait 3 months, do it again, and out of a year the training site would only receive 1/3rd what they normally would. When in all actuality they deserve about 10x what they charge.

Just a question. You don't have to repay the initial amount right? In other words, if I pay the initial sign up, join for a month, take 2 off, and want another month I don't have to repay the initial amount right? Reason I ask is I work on ships so am gone 6 weeks at a time.

This can differ from site to site.

I know at LeggoPoker we give you a 3 months grace period from the time your subscription ends, in which you can subscribe again at any time for the normal monthly rate without having to repay the signup fee, so you would be fine.

Personally I don't find them expensive at all, if you do, don't get a membership yet.
You aren't at the right level to benefit maximum from those vid's if that is alot of money to you.

I suggest reading all the stickies and knowledge you can get here from 2+2, that alone should be able to make you a winning player if you make the effort.

When you get up to 50NL+ the sign-up shoulden't really be much money for you at all.

Is there some trainingsites that cost much? I only pay like $25 / month each for 3 different sites (= DC, CR and Pokerfox) and I think it is very cheap...

Could sites not charge per video as an option instead of membership? Obv make membership better value, im sure for the casual viewer you could charge upto $5 per video.

Do these sites apply mostly to NL games. What is the distribution of game types they cover? I play mostly limit...would these sites be worth it for me?

there are sites that offer it all. between the sites that have forums on 2+2 alone (cardrunners, stoxpoker, leggopoker and deucescracked), you can find training on most any form of commonly played poker.

edit: I'd look in depth at all options above the quoted recommendations for sake of thoroughness

AMT is right, check out all the sites. DeucesCracked has a series of 4NL, 3 Limit, and a series on starting in PLO, plus "The HeadsUpament." Each series runs eight weeks, one video per week, and there is standalone content released on top of that. No sign up fees, No DRM.

Is it recommended to have a 10K+ hand Database in PokerTracker before joining one of these sites?
