This is a very open ended question. There are alot of resources available to get better at the game. What kind of bankroll do you have available? Do you enjoy MTT's or cash more. It is pretty understood (I think that MTT's are currently softer but filled with more variance. Good cash game players are used to playing deeper stacked, make reads, exploit opponents, and in general, think about the game in a slightly more complex way. However, even 4nl and 5nl are filled with decent players so you might get frustrated. If playing cash, HUDs are vital and give you info you need. Feel free to pm if you have more detailed questions.

MTTs, Zoom, HUSNG (hypers), 6 Max SNG (hypers) seem to be where the best potential hourly rates are for players taking the game serious and starting to get into the semi pro/pro mold.

Variance can actually be a good thing. If you have a game where you play very short, low edge games, you can still make a ton of money per hour and the game is more natural at driving in casual players that love the potential of winning a single game/don't like to just be lit up and lose their bankroll to a single player in a single pot/game all the time.

NOWEAKNES!
My advice.... JUST MAKE SURE YOU USE STRICT BANK ROLL MANAGEMENT and you will be just fine. If you plan on depositing 300$ and you like MTT's. Well that answers your first two questions. As far as HUDS, No i dont think you absolutely need them right now. I think your approach to the game should be... Deposit your 300$. and play MTT's from as low as you can find all the way up to 2-3$ DO NOT PLAY ANY HIGHER... Just have fun... learn... play as much as many of those games as you can find, learn as much as you can. Focus on position, stack sizes, your table image... what you think people think of you at the table...stay patient, find good spots... if you make a big score in a small 1-2$ game.. then reward yourself with a bigger buy in tournament... like 5-11$. Just remember BANKROLL MANAGEMENT should be your main focus, Be smart. My advice.. good luck!
