Hi everyone,

I'm as new to 2+2 as they come, though in the past I've read a bit on here.

Quick background:
About 7 years ago I got introduced to poker and fell in love with it. Between 2015 and 2017 I've played a bunch of mainly NLHE cash and SnG's micro stakes on PS and had another period of high frequency play around 2019.
Unfortunatly besides poker I was also in love with drugs and alcohol so even though I've been a fairly decent winner overall I was never able to build a steady discipline.
Sober for about 2 years now and ready to treat the game right this time around.

In 2019 I paid for a couple months of membership to Upswing Poker and it taught me a lot. The personal situation mentioned above prohibited any real progress or much memorisation, unfortunately.

So I am not new to poker and familiair with the basics, terminology and *some* strategy and use of HM2.
However I do not have any solid strategy that I now play by, mainly using highly exploitable strat to take money from weak regs and fish on GG poker which works great one tabling NL10 on a site that doesnt allow for much real statistics being kept on me.
However I'd like to learn how to play "for real".

By this I do not mean using a pure solver based, complicated, as close to unexploitable strategy as possible allowing me to play NL200 and up. This is not where my ambition lies.
I would like to move up to NL50, MAYBE NL100 and make a decent figure multi tabling there so I can support myself when I move to the Phillipines in a couple of years. Rake back grinder is not an offensive term to me though obviously I would like to do a bit better.

After this long ass intro (appologies) we have finally gotten to the questions I have for you:

-very much believing I should not pick and mix strategy from various (free) sources but learn a solid basic strat allowing me to reach my goals and personalise from there.. is Upswing my best bet or would I be better off choosing thepokerbank or some other (free/cheap) site to get my fundamentals down?

-is there much use in posting hands here or will the contradictory advise from players of various skill levels just confuse me?

-is it better, in your opinion, to stick to NL10 while I learn (pretty sure present day I'm still beating this as is, though Ive only played 3.5k hands recently) or would it make more sense to do NL25/NL50. I do have the bankroll for it but obviously would hate to lose it.

-at what point, if ever, would it be a worth wile investment to get coaching from some one and how do I find a good coach for the stakes I aim to play? GilZ89 is the only one I saw on here in my brief look around the site but he is posting a 30k hand graph and single tournament win, which obviously does not inspire confidence in me.

Thank you so much for any advise.

FYI could you, in your answer, mention how long you've been a winning player and at what stakes so I have a better understanding of how serious to take your opinion

Hey,

The poker road is long and ardous. You need to be extremelly good to be able to beat 100nl online for a living. Get ready for years of work and study.

A 100,000 hand sample isn't even a great sample to show your win-rate. It can easily be off 3bb in any direction.

I think that Best Poker Coaching offers the best material for mico/lowstakes. Start there, work your way to 25nl. Get a 300k hand sample to prove you can beat it. Then go get a coach for profit.

Be careful with solvers, they can lead you astray. No one plays like a solver, even at 200nl.

I've done the whole poker dream. Moved to Thailand 15 years ago and played 1000nl.

Now I can barely beat 100nl.

Even $1500 a month isn't great in a country like Thailand.

It kinda sucks finding yourself in another country 15 years later without any skills besides poker. And, only being able to realize 15% of your former earnings. My wife and I are actually in the process of moving to Vegas, so I can pursue live poker.

Jonathan Little and Poker Coaching in my opinion. Phil Galfond and Run It Once Poker isn't a bad choice either. Both those guys/sites are pretty well respected by a lot of high stake pros and majority of players. In my opinion both seem also likeable/nice away from the tables not that you asked so may not matter to you idk.

Personally I don't feel like there's anything wrong with mixing/studying both for now. I'd go with both sites free offerings for now and see what you like better and what fits you better for style and such.

FWIW 20+ year winning micro/low stakes full-ring cash/MTT Pokerstars rec/hobby player. So while not a daily grinder I do take my hobby serious even if it's just micro/low stakes cash. I do play MTT's from micro-med stakes. The odd higher stake-Sunday Million MTT.

Good luck with the journey and at the tables.

Cheers!!!

There are a lot of good options. You should consider carrot corner. Try a bunch out and see which head coach you click with the most!
