Texas Holdem, Flush Hands, who wins? Texas Holdem, Flush Hands, who wins?

I'm sorry I wasn't really sure where to post this, wasn't sure which part of texas holdem it would come under, but it is a question so I though i'd put it here.

essentially, today me and my mate bet hard on our hands in texas holdem. I had:

J - spades, 6 - Spades

he had:

Q - spades, 10 - diamonds

On the table was:

K - spades, 4 - spades, 8 - spades, 2 - spades, 9 - clubs

Now he claims he wins because he had a higher card, the queen

However I claim I win because I have 2 of the flush cards already, and therefore my flush is of higher value since my 6 is four higher than the 2 he uses, and the J is only 1 lower than the queen. This makes my flush cards add up to a higher value than his.

He claimed he won due to the highest card flush, yet I though poker was about getting the hand of hardest probability, if I have 2 flush cards (6 spades all together) with a higher overall value than his flush, who wins????

Cheers

He Wins .... Best five card hand .... you have a Flush KJ864 he has a flush KQ842 ... KQhigh beats KJ high its the highest 5 card hand... just like a T high straight beats a 9 high straight.

Thanks for clearing that up!! so it doesn't matter at all what the rest of the flush is it's just whoever has the highest card within the flush, cheers!
