A return to poker after 5 years..... A return to poker after 5 years.....

Hello to all. My name is Lex and I am returning to poker full time after a 4-5 years away from the game. My poker background was mostly SNG's and small field MTT's with a strong win rate over several years.

Any advice and or assistance in getting up to speed with the games today would be much appreciated. Specifically how would one go about studying 10-50bb poker with the resources available today? My thoughts were sign up to something like Upswing and drown in the content for a few weeks, as well as something like Poker Snowie. What advice would you guys have for someone looking to fast track a return to a full time poker grind?

Thanks in advance! Lex

Wow. Well you for sure have missed a ton during your break!

The game is heavily solver based now, and players are more often than not much better than 5 years ago. With higher rake on top of this, you can't just get away with using a range chart and playing ABC poker. The game is very tough, just to warn you.

I think upswing for a month is a good place to begin. Then look at purchasing a solver, and run a ton, and I mean a boat-load of sims. Start at much lower stakes than what you did prior. You'll probably find that the skill level is the same as the higher stake you played before. You'll also find out that Upswing mostly only post solver content in the lab now, so once you've refreshed yourself with the basics, you can move over to solvers. I'd spend at least 2-3 months just studying and only playing very small stakes to practice.

I'm a cash game player so I'm probably telling a totally different perspective to tourneys. I think they're still softer, probably more difficult though.

Best of luck!
