preparing yourself for coaching/study

Have not been a committed player , basically circling around playing the odd game and reading the odd article.Have a coupon for 6 month training subscription but rather than just signing up and wasting time I'd like to hear what other 2+2 readers think a player needs to do to prepare for coaching/study. Example: 1)Know hand strength EV calc back to front 2)play 50k hands 3)Have questions or areas of interest to mention to coach/community etc. Trying to avoid activating a membership and then just watching videos and reading forums which I can do without the need of paying or using the time up.
