I've been approached by a microstakes player who wants me to coach them. I've replied explaining I've no interest in coaching but he's asked me to make an exception. Instead of coaching I've offered a hand history review where he sends me 100 hands and I'll look over them giving my views on certain spots throughout and then a final paragraph containing an overview of obvious leaks, subtle leaks etc.

Problem is I have no idea how long it will take and how much I should charge. Is it better to charge one bulk payment or set the clock and charge by the hour? I make roughly $20/hr from poker.

In those situations, I think that charging by the hour is better. What you could also do is just charge him one set price for x amount of hands. It can either be a detailed hand analysis where he sends you like 10 interesting hands (and you dissect those hands) or the bulk session/pay by hour. It can really take however long or short as you want it to take. An interesting hand can have pages of content on it.

I think that charging less than your hourly is pretty standard. I'd probably charge about $10-$15 an hour.

Coolio, as it's a once off I'll charge by the hour and split the payment with half going to me and half going to charity. Thanks for the response.
