1 hour will let you know if the coach is right for you.

but if you are thinking about getting coaching and really improving your game I think you should be willing to spend at least 8hrs of coaching. It's too hard for a coach to really have a big influance on your game in less than that(eventhough obv 1 is better than no coaching at all)

yeah over all you are going to need more than 1 hour to inprove your game. 1 or 2 hours should let you know if the coach is right for you.

really situation dependent in my opinion. Some factors:

-the coach
-the cost in the context of your finances (poker and in other life aspects)
-your playing and thinking levels in poker
-what you want to get out of coaching and your overall goals with the game.

standard wisdoms would indicate that, not factoring in external factors, one should do thorough research and, after selecting a coach, pay for a short # of hours to ensure that the actual styles, levels, personalities and overall situations mesh together well. Sometimes a good coach or good player doesn't necessarily make for a good mix with a client, and to no one's discredit in particular. Sometimes one shouldn't get coaching at all, it just might not be a good fit for some as they think of poker in the context of their life (though many find value in it from all I've observed). Sometimes, someone finds value in just a couple of hours, and sometimes, clients spend 10 and 20 and 50 hours with certain learning opportunities. Do your research and indulge yourself in the process and I think you'll find what you're looking for with today's wide array of coaching opportunities...or at least find out more about yourself and your poker career. Hope this helps, good luck on your quest.
