General Coaching Tips and Advice- How to get the most out of Coaching General Coaching Tips and Advice- How to get the most out of Coaching

I currently have an in person coach that I've been talking different things about, ie. Fold Equity, Pot Odds in Different situations, Bet sizing, etc...

This was from only one session, and I was wondering how should I approach getting coaching to get the most out of the experience. My coach is definitely a winning player and seems to know his stuff but I don't know his actual credentials and how much teaching experience he has. At this point I'm not sure if my coach has specific things planned out or not, but so far I've been coming up with things to talk about.

I want to become a consistent winner in live micro to mid stakes cash games in the most efficient time possible. Should I tell him this and ask whats the best way to do this. Should I just go over as much hands as I've played and ask how he would play it. Should I keep asking more about different concepts to apply to my game.

How do I make sure I get the best results possible. Any coaches or successful students want to share what they did to get results?

The students who get the most out of coaching are the ones who are prepared before hand. The one's that have questions prepared, and want to discuss certain things in their game. When I received coaching I had tons of notes on theory, trouble spots, ranges etc that I had prepared before hand each session.

I understand that not everyone will be able to pinpoint leaks and not really know where to start but everyone has trouble spots, spots they hate and spots that give them fits.

Nothing says unprepared when a student shows up for a session and says "now what". It's like they haven't given it any thought whatsoever.

The students who ask questions and study after the session is over are the ones who learn the most IMO. Also don't just ask questions and accept the answers at face value, challenge them, that's the best way to learn IMO

Ok, I have things I think would help my game but might not be considered as important by someone more experienced ie. bluffing, reading opponents and "playing them".

Are there things you learn "in order" that should be learned before anything else?

- I have well over 1000 maybe more than 10,000 hands played online and probably hundreds live.

- I can already use pot odds and ev to make the "correct" decision

- Since my tutor advised me to stop small balling so much and play more tight aggressive basic strategy with only good hands, I've done that.

I'm still a losing player live because I'm pretty new to it, and would say break even at best online. In my opinion in live games, if I play too "correct" I'm too predictable. Am I overlooking any basic fundamentals to be taught before I try to read, outplay, and bluff your opponents?
