Hi guys. I'm not in a great place right now and decided to reach out to see if anybody would be willing to take me on and help me.

Some long term players might recognise my name. I played professionally under CaptnCanary between 2005-2011. I crushed 2/4NL for a couple of years (making $30k per month) and became a 25/50NL (5K) reg for a couple of years before I started becoming too stressed by the swings at higher stakes and quit playing. I got out close to peak profits which was good.
I tried returning to my prior engineering career to keep me busy and then returned to education getting a masters in computing science. I became pretty depressed in these 9am-5pm environments and ended up losing my wife and kids because of it.

I'm now a bit lost with life and have no obvious source of income. Recently I decided to try making a return to Poker. I actually did great for all of December steadily winning 3.8k at mostly 25c/50c. But I've then lost 2.4k of that in about a week and feeling depressed like I should quit the game again.

I feel a bit out of my depth with the modern way of playing. I can see the game has changed a lot. I know I have promise and ability but I think I need to learn a new way of thinking to play the modern game well and consistently. I've never used HUDs or solvers but am interested in them and actually built a HU pokerbot for my masters degree.
I wanted to reach out and see if somebody would be willing to take me on as a student. I can devote several hours a day to it. I'll be up front - I'm probably not keen on paying an hourly rate for a coach. I'd like a more long term involvement with somebody who wants a project to work with me. We could consider a percentage of profits deal if payment is required.

Really hoping this strikes a chord with somebody who'd like to help me. Hope to hear from you.
Steve

I thought I'd had no responses at all until just now. I'd not had any notifications until your message here and that's led me to discover I had a couple of PM's waiting for me. I'll be following up on those
What's your history? Happy to have a chat some time.

Hey man

I'm 22 so I've not heard your name before. But boy, hasn't the game changed since 05-11! I can only imagine how soft the games used to be back then, compared to now. I'm curious as to how the strategy you employed is different to the modern game. I can imagine it was a bit nittier, with little 3/4betting etc.

Unfortunately, I probably cannot help you. I think my poker game is good, but I'm probably not qualified enough to help you out man. I don't mind giving advice now and then though. The game has really changed, as you can probably see, but I'm young and don't really know any different, so can give you a fresh pair of eyes on strategies etc. Really sorry to hear about the family issues. That must have been super tough. Hope you get back on your feet soon man.

Get Harrington he has old and current so you can compare, also Sklansky is timeless just use your imagination. Also Elky has a book "the raiser's edge" where they are saying the game of poker doesn't change but goes around in a cycle of modes. This why Daniel Negneau only wins after so long a time because it is a cycle of okay and his small ball only works against like ng ball, etc.

Also I wouldn't mind helping and although I don't have much proof I do have a PhD and as Aristotle says the best teachers aren't the biggest winners. UpSwing which claims only big winners can teach has only about a 15 percent success rate. Even in high level chess they make a team and the analyst is not the player.
