As of now, there are constantly new "I want to start a study group!" type threads popping up in Coaching Advice. I feel a more effective way of organizing it so that people are able to find those who might be interested in this sort of thing is to keep it to a single thread. Doing this, like keeping the "I want to be coached!" threads to a single thread, also lessens clutter and makes it so that people are more easily able to find the topics they are interested in.

So from now on, all new study group threads are getting merged here.

Personally, if you want to start a study group, the first thing I would be doing (if you haven't already) is just going to the strategy forums here and start by posting some hands. The HUNL forum is by far the best "study group" I've had. Incidentally, those forums are also where your request for a smaller subgroup of people to discuss things is more likely to find takers. I suspect that posting in an existing low-content/junk thread in those forums that you're interested in forming a group will prove to be more successful regardless.

Still, study group discussion is certainly welcome in this forum as well. Feel free to post what you're interested in. Leave a country/city etc if you're interested in studying live in the Toronto area or a specific game if you're looking for a partner to brush up on Stud8 with. I recommend searching this thread to find people who have posted with similar interests.

I too live in Toronto and have wanted to get involved in a regular, in-person study group to improve my NLHE game. I am an avid student of the game, slightly winning player, specializing in STT SNGs looking to play more MTTs.

Any luck with having a Toronto group?

Calling all microstakes/small stakes NLHE players in Toronto!

Yes, you guessed it - looking to be part of a current study group in Toronto or even running one. Anyone out there that's serious about their game, is a break even player at worst, and live in or near Toronto please reply to this message!

I'm open to joining a currently running group or even looking for some skilled/knowledgeable players to get one going!

Looking for any 18 man grinders to sweat each other/ go over hand histories and improve together. I'm currently playing the $3.50s. Attempting to move up to the $7s at some point in the near future. Anyone is welcome. I'm already beating the stake.

We are currently building a new group for 200nl+ (6max) grinders. PM me if youre interested in joining. If your playing 100nl you can join too, but you should be pretty confident and not taking shots there.

Entering a new chapter in my poker career. My first resolution - to stop being a poker island. I'd love to get involved in a group to chat strategy and improve my game. Most of my poker history is in NLHE MTTs (micros online and small stakes live) and NLHE cash (micros online and 1-2 live). I'd love to chat with anyone, preferably a range of players with different skill levels and styles. To me, discussion is the best way to learn and improve at poker.

PM me if you have a group for either cash or MTT - Ideally, I'd like to find some people who play both, but again, I'm just looking for good poker discussion with players who are committed to improving.

Hi guys I am just reaching out to the poker community, I've been playing poker for a while now, I've done some studying but I'm looking to advance much further. I'm not the greatest player but I will dedicate ALL my spare time into study/work to become better, also I'm looking for a group to join, or someone who's a winning player that will help me do some studying and review hands. Hopefully build some bonds/friendships. I WOULD BE SUPER GREAT FULL TO ANYONE THAT HAS THE TIME.

Evening all

I made a poker study group with 4 others from my poker society at Uni. They are all ok players, I am confident they could all beat at least 5NL. We are each starting with $60 and working our way up from 2NL.

What are some good tips for running a group like this? I have a bunch of videos from my training site membership I am gonna share with them and I was considering all deciding on a series to focus on and work through that way. Also obviously han discussion will be a big part of the group. How much of a good idea would books be? Are they all out of date now? What about having people record sessions and I comment over them? As a 25NL player I feel like my main benefit from this is going to be how useful teaching is for grounding fundamentals in my mind.

As for a website, I was thinking a Facebook group should work ok. Since we all see each other in person multiple times a week do I need to organise much more than that for meetings etc?

Hello 2p2. I'm looking to join an MTT study group. Most of my MTT experience is in the micros at Poker Stars pre BF, and Lock and Carbon post BF. I'm looking to improve my aptitude at the game, move up, and play the occasional live tourney. Right now, I work full time, so I'm mostly concentrating on study outside of the table during the weekdays, and playing on the weekends.

I'd love to discuss poker with players of all skill levels, but ideally looking for players who are at the same level as me and are looking to improve, and players with greater skill and experience who I'll be able to learn and improve from. PM me if you've got a group that could use a member who's committed to constantly improving at poker.

I'm looking for a live partner to go over sessions with and talk general strat. I'm a former .5/1 and 1/2 NLHE reg back in the pre BF days and am just now trying to get my live game going. I was thinking just going over hands from sessions by note taking on your phone or whatever and general live chit chat. Doing this would force me to put in hours and try to get better and get used to the live game compared to online which is what I'm used to. I usually can only put in about 10 hours per week due to my work schedule but I'm hoping to put in more at some point.

I am keen to find a PLO study buddy or group to improve my game.

I curently play 1/2 PLO online and live at the local casino. Have been playing poker for about 4 years and PLO 2.5 years.

I really hope to take my game further by discussing hands with someone serious about the game.

Send me pm or ask me on skype - nickytown28.
