Never pay for poker coaching. 95% of the scammers make no money playing online poker. The poker coaching industry is a disgrace. Dont be a sucker. There's a very high chance you win **** money even with coaching. The rake is high everywhere and your opponents will still be just as good as you. Coaches just want a thousand suckers to give them money to make them rich without playing poker. Dont be one of them. Never pay for poker coaching.

There is good and bad coaching. Also some coaches you just work/learn better with than others. I've had several coaches. Most I didn't get a lot from. Some helped me get a lot better at poker.

Should you avoid reading books too, just because some are not as good as others?

Ship over your bankroll to the first person who responds they are a coach on 2+2 - Negative EV play
Hiring a legit , well known coach that is within your means , after you have put in countless hours of studying with books , courses, and hand reviews. - Slightly positive EV

One nice thing about poker communities on discord or forums like 2+2 if you want to review a hand you can. I recommend reading thru some of the high stake hand reviews

the first few hours of coaching you get off a good coach are insane value.

like if you are a slightly losing / breakeven player and you can get a winner at your stake to review and go over hands with you for a few buyins that is likely going to be one of the most +EV investments you make in your game.

returns diminish however, the first hours are always likely going to be the most valuable

but finding somebody who is a a good communicator of concepts who is analytical enough to be self aware regarding their strategy is difficult

I totally agree with this reply. I went with a known local player that has known success. The first session was an overview on hands played and the thinking behind them. Next we ID'd some leaks. We went over them and corrected them. The change in behavior was a challenge. Letting go of bad habits is hard. But worth it. My game improved. However, I feel we've been stagnant in the last few sessions. I'm going to discuss this with the coach and see if there will be any changes forthcoming. Otherwise, I will be looking for another coach. Untill then...
Good luck out there, just not against me
Cheers

Before paying for a random coach first put together a study group and go over leaks , stats and hand histories. If you see that you are playing well outside a specific range or have a huge leak work on that with your group. If you are still not able to show improvement then make sure you hire a legit coach with a known history (will cost you alot). Also I would recommend going thru courses like upswing (go thru every video and read everything multiple times) If there are certain parts of your game that you have trouble with , for example you see you are losing alot to cold calling 3bets preflop then review those sections multiple times and take notes. Also watch the play and explains.

Another thing I would recommend is go down in stakes. For example if you are playing 100nl , go down to 25nl where you can shove bluff without caring about the $ . Never play stakes where losing 10 buy ins is going to affect you in any way

If you have alot of hands try leakbuster 2 it will show you some of your leaks (its not perfect but will give you somewhere to start)

If anyone is looking for a study group message me. I don't have that much time but I can def help out
