I also think there is a style of play that is required to gain all those points resulting in break even play. My HUD has collected 20k+ hands with many of the usual players in the top tier each week and very few of them are what i would consider actual winners from table winnings (or even profitable). Winning the most pots is more important than not losing. To compete for the 2.5k top tier you have to sacrifice win rate for volume, there really is no other way around that. But you don't have to play 16 hours a day if you play all your tables at 100nl+. The players that really crush it (20+ bb/100) that I've observed rarely play more than a few tables and are nowhere near the top of the BEAST leader board. My assumption though is that with the BEAST rewards + rakeback these breakeven players are doing very very well each week. Of course this is all just based on my data set and its possible that these break even players are crushing it on other tables while i am absent. Anyway they should pray that ACR never gets rid of the BEAST-type rewards or reduces rakeback like pokerstars did.
You just described getting to Supernova Elite status on PokerStars.
Yes, if you're a good player there are two or three basic strategies to make a lot of money online:
1. Play a small number of games or tournaments, paying attention just like you would if you were playing live.
2. Play a bunch of tables, making a small profit per table that adds up to a lot of money.
3. If the rewards at the end of the the rainbow are large enough (loyalty points, bonuses, etc.) don't even worry about winning or losing, just play enough volume to get those rewards. When PokerStars had a Supernova Elite Level,
you could lose money at the tables and still come out ahead because just making SNE was worth 100K.
