I have mixed feelings about that, because entries coming in close to the 2-hour mark add to the prize pool (assuming the guarantee is reached), but they have little chance of cashing. To put in another way, they are dead money.
You don't have to know anything about tournament structures to realize that if many of the players at your table have 5X your starting stack or more, you're not in a good situation. That's a mistake that you should only make once. As Tony Dunst is wont to say, let's break it down:
If Joe enters just before the 2-hour break, assume that he is working with a starting stack of 5K, 15-minute blinds, the standard WPN tournament structure and a 9-player table. Level 9 (the start of hour 3) has blinds and antes of 200/400/50--which gives Joe a starting M of 4.8, or 12.5 BB! And by the way, if Joe manages to hang on through level 9, level 10 (300/600/75) boosts the blinds and antes by more than 50%.
Yet, a lot of players enter just before the 2-hour mark. Why?
