This is a bit of an unorthodox one, but potentially has a lot of potential...

For those not aware, around the 2015-2019 era, sites using poker mavens and using in-game currency from the game runescape were popular. There was even a site that took no rake, called TokenBets. (now gone) The in-game currency has real-world value and games were incredibly soft and players often just bought and sold chips from each other that were profiting in this very interesting era. There used to be games up to the equivalent of around the 5/T area. Sadly, these sites are no longer active.

But....

There appears to be one called RuneHall. I've asked around and there is someone buying/selling chips and by jumping through a few hoops, can get some runescape gold deposited.

The site also appears to not be raking poker. But it is a complete barren wasteland.

I don't know if anyone had experience with these runescape-based poker sites back in the day but there's one now with no rake but is dead. There's the OCCASIONAL player sitting the equivalent of around 40nl and the very rare instance of someone sitting around 3/6 equivalent plo or plo5 but games are never running.

Anyone know anything regarding this/have past experience/believe there's any hope?

Video game gold has been an interesting precursor to cryptocurrency, in the sense that it allowed trading with:

- very low or zero fees,
- No chargebacks.
- Anonymous and untraceable.

That said, the value that someone attaches to the currency is related to the value that someone attaches to the game, so it's likely that the currency will only be used by ex-players. It's a nice niche market, but it's unsurprisingly filled with low-value people, as a community built around playing 12 hours per day for years on end. Lots of scamming. And unfortunately the currency is mostly used by people who still actually play the game.

I wish there were a way to trade the currency without actually downloading and playing the game. If someone made an RS wallet so that we could trade without actually going back to that videogame era, I would be more open to using that currency. But at some point, just using crypto or USD tends to involve higher amounts with much better regulations, more trust, less margins, less scamming.

Like, traders are very secretive, they won't even reveal their name, they trade in discord, they are unprofessional, they try to sell you gold, yes, but also services to level up accounts.

Nice idea, but in practice I've grown apart from the community.

There's p2p on the site and a very popular/trusted buyer and seller of the chips but I doubt anything would ever happen. Trying to get a bunch of people to cooperate is always a pain.

Do you know anything about this new poker site where you can play with RuneScape currency? It's fairly new and looks pretty decent, although the action isn't always consistent. However, I had a few wins that I cashed in easily. I was wondering if you had any insight or thoughts on these types of poker sites. The tricky part is that you can only play with RuneScape currency and trading gold is always a risk. However, the skill level of the players is poor and you can definitely win some money.

There's someone I can vouch for that buys/sells the balance directly called CheapGP, runs a discord and I bought and sold chips directly via p2p. The site is completely legit and the logistics actually aren't that bad it's just that the site is completely dead and runescape poker is just a relic of the past.
