FWIW, it's not uncommon for sites to require a person to deposit via a new payment method before they can withdraw the same way. Highly unlikely this a ruse to get a couple dollars out of you.

This is an important point. If it's true, then I can understand you not wanting to do this. But I'd find it surprising if GG is actually unable to pay its players - I'd expect there to be a lot of threads about such a serious problem. If instead, this is simply a "problem with the SEPA bank transfer payment organization", then it may be worth going to the trouble of the Skrill or Neteller route.

If the minimum deposit is small, which I assume it is, then it's a way to verify your Neteller/Skrill account and thus it makes sense. I would probably do it if I was you.
