So after some quick reading, it seems like it
can be a problem. People must think that the risk doesn't outweigh the wait for a check? Still, I don't understand why people don't move to a site that doesn't have crazy waits for payouts.
I mean, what legitimate reason do they have for delaying the dollar payouts? If they can't articulate a reasonable excuse, then it's easy to jump to the worst possible scenario, which is that they simply don't have the money.
It's scary to contemplate, but Carbon / Merge could easily be waiting for new deposits in order to pay out withdrawal requests. The fluctuating delays in dollar payouts over the past months and years could easily correspond to the number of people depositing and withdrawing cash. When more money is being withdrawn than deposited, payout times skyrocket. When the opposite happens, payout times shrink.
As long as this ratio doesn't get too far out of whack, everything continues fine. If there's ever a bank run and the ratio tilts drastically in favor of withdrawals, this could all collapse into a very messy situation indeed.
