hello all-

Not new to the site just new to posting any kind of position. I too am in the corner of making some needed changes over at merge. i play full time on this site and only this site so seeing where it has ended up even from last October is a little sad. As far as the late reg and re entries, I can't agree more that this needs to get looked at. I will admit that I took a nose dive the first couple months getting used to and adjusting my game to this new style. I feel I am getting back on track and actually taking advantage of the late reg and re entry process. I am now a player that actually likes to register at 250/500 blinds and will not enter any sooner anymore and I am finding it profitable. Yes I am the one at your table taking more chances now which if you have ever played with me in the past, I was the biggest nit at the table. I know say give me 11-14 bb and lets run em. I still would love to see the old product back because I know I was a far bigger winner back then but for now I have adjusted and will rebuy no less than 10 times in $11 dollars and under and no less than 5 times in anything higher just to build that stack. Again, it goes against my normal way of playing if you have ever played with me but for now it is the way I go.

Good Luck to all and if Kahn is the man to get things done then my vote is to at some point take a real good look at the old re buy and re entry format.

For what it's worth.

Clive

FYI this app will not work on the Android browser. Works fine on Chrome.

You know Merge has gotten bad when a 9 year lurker breaks his silence to make his only 2 posts ever about fixing the structures.

I do the same thing a lot now. It's a waste of time to play MTTs on Merge from the start. You're going to be flipping for an hour or 2 anyway so may as well skip the 2 hours that lead up to it. I got tired of watching my 60bb stacks dwindle as I call down 5K any 2 shoves. May as well be the guy doing the shoving imo.

^ meh. I still stick to the buy in for one bullet and see where that gets me mentality. So far in 2014, I have an ok 56% ROI in MTT's without one single reentry.

I mean, obviously it's still possible to play them like normal tournaments still, but in the long run(which isn't 2 months) it's terrible for the site. ROI isn't really relevant to the discussion without # of games and buy in levels either, btw.

Only reason it's terrible for the site is MTT traffic wise. If they don't care much about it or are trying to keep people away from MTT's, makes sense.

It's terrible for the site because it creates an ecosystem where sharks eat fish at a much more rapid pace which in turn leads to less traffic, smaller prize pools, and less rake. It also is terrible for the site because it makes people leave because they don't want every single donkament they play to take 9 hours. Merge wouldn't want to keep people from MTTs because it's the only thing they have going for them and it's been that way for going on a year now.

I guess. I'm predominantly a cash game player.

Then it effects you too. It's very standard for bad players to bink a tourney and dump it in cash games. Or just the random recreational player who plays tourneys and cash, if the site can't offer him both of these options to fit in their schedule then they will find a site that does. Most recreational players have chosen to play elsewhere at this point for valid reasons. Which also leads regulars exploring other sites for softer games.

Merge should limit re-entrys to 1 and 2 hour late reg iyam.

I'll never forget winning the $20 RB on FTP( my first worthwhile MTT cash) and then dumping it all in less than 2 hours playing $10-$20 NL. Sigh, the glory days...

I need assistance from other mtt players. At what point should a player stop re entering?

I wish I could drop Carbon/merge like a bad habit but I just can't. It is so hard to stay disciplined during every session and not re enter after it is no longer profitable. Most of the time I can't. I really don't know how to not do it when you're 5 from the money and essentially have to win one flip to cash. Then I see players like Troy throw caution to the wind and will re enter no matter what. What is the optimal play here?!?!

Play cash games ... always a much better strategy than playing tournaments imo

Except that cash traffic sucks unless you play micro stakes and if you do play micro stakes the rake is astronomically high.

It's an interesting (meaning not easy) question and I would personally dismiss most answers not backed up by sound logic and math.

Well, whatever the cash traffic is like for micros should be commensurate with the traffic for MTT's, right? It's not like there are a handful of midstakes cash games and a ton of mid-stakes tournaments. Are there? The rake WAS high at micros, but I paid my dues and moved up and I'm making a lot more at $50NL than $10NL.

I'm only half serious and mostly kidding I guess (ergo the winks). If you like tournaments, you should play them. I personally think the best money making strategy is playing cash.

The Limit games have a really good rake structure.

personally i think if ur a good push/fold player and have strong ICm game when it comes to this point in the tourney, keep re entering. I dont think i win my chips postflop, early in tournies (working on that) but my edge comes when its push/fold i think, so when i was playing mtts i would re reg pretty much no matter what, long hair dont care

To those who've used Netspend for depositing... I have a balance on my card but their cashier is declining it due to 'insufficient funds' when I'm trying to deposit clearly less than my available balance. Granted I just reloaded it this morning but my account says the funds are there so wtf.

Not real excited about doing a WU xfer to some random person in Nicaragua.

What skin are you on? I tried depositing to Poker Host recently w/ Netspend and it wouldn't work. I'd also suggest getting in touch w/ live chat and having them manually try depositing for you if you haven't already done that.

Also, is this the card you just got or is it the official one w/ your name on it that came in the mail?
