a and b combined is likely to be way more than having to cover the overlay in the short-run.
What lock should have done ages ago, and shortly after they acquired formerly known Cake network is to go back to Cake 1.0 poker client while they are developing their new software. Instead they are being dumb and stubborn wasting resources on 2.0, without any clear or positive results.
I don't really believe that to be the case. I was just speculating. They don't really have anyone to look over their back to determine how they do those payouts. Their regulations are fairly lax. There is no overseer.
Isn't this the 3rd Sunday in a row they have had to cancel tournaments? It's getting a little ridiculous. These disconnects in the short term could be saving them quite a bit of money when they consistently fall like 17.5k short. Is their 500$ major hitting its guarantee?
And honestly, they don't seem to be losing traffic. We Americans are just too damn desperate to play an available network. It's sad but true.
As I said before though i'm just playing devils advocate. It's not like poker companies have not done shady **** in the past or anything.
