What makes this one unique is that he/she received a letter from the bank several days after the deposit was made. I understand that his/her read was that the teller acted strangely when he saw the check & very well could have alerted his manager to a suspicious check (after all, some of these Bodog checks looks like they belong in Bazooka Joe packs). We don't know if this check would have received the same scrutiny had it been deposited in the ATM instead. I realize that most ATM deposits are handled differently & sometimes processed by a third party (TCF & Charter do their own processing of these ATM deposits). While TCF has grown by gobbling up local banks/S&L they are still a small bank who treat their customers accordingly. The OP could walk into his same branch & discuss the letter with the branch manager without any fear of the manager reporting him for anything. While they want to protect their own interests the OP's interests are also valued by TCF. I understand OP's reluctance to stir the pot but I wish he/she would reconsider. Please keep us posted.
