The meaning of "collections" in this banking context is probably not what you think. It does not have a negative meaning like your post is suggesting. If they called it "happy fun time international checks department" would that make you feel better?

All kidding aside, you guys need to stop being so scared about getting checks.

Sometimes they ask, "Is this a paycheck?" I was a little unsure of it initially but said, "Yeah, online consulting." They asked if I was interested in setting up direct deposit. "Oh, no thank you."

$6500 Bank Wire

Requested: 6/11
Processed: 6/13
Received: 6/18

The final amount received in my bank account was $6398.33 so roughly $102 in fees, not too bad. I'm pretty satisfied.

Same thing happened to me. Ive always used the same account to deposit poker checks over the last 10 years. I opened a new account at the same bank and when I tried to deposit in the new account I had to sit down with bank manager, explain myself, and they put a 10 day hold on it.

it was wu that was available to everyone actually. that ended two months ago. now you can withdraw via wu or mg if the majority of your deposits went that way, and from what cs told me if that method was your most recent method used.

I requested a check by courier. Don't have a bank account. Check is for $600 only. Is it safe to go to check cashing place to cash it? What other options do I have? Not able to open a bank account.

You can sign it over to someone that has an account.

Do you know if it will go to collections if I sign it over to my girlfriend's account? And how long do you think it will take to process and have it cleared?

Only your bank knows the answers to those questions. Nobody here does.

Some banks don't accept international wires themselves, and instead when money is wired to them, that money is accepted on their behalf by another institution, then forwarded to your bank. For instance, if you have an international wire sent to your schwab account, they use citi bank to handle it, so the actual account details you should provide end up being citibanks. I'm not sure how it works on Bovada as I haven't used a wire yet, but that's how my last transfer went.

MA

Had my check sent to collections (again), 4-6 week wait and $15 dollar fee. Complete BS, but I think it also has to do more with the new rules on foreign checks than it does my institution (which is small).

Is there any other method (or bank) to withdraw you guys can recommend that makes it quicker to receive money?

Yes. Though there has been one or two reports of the teller entering it as Canadian funds (for the Canadian checks), and getting like $900 for a $1000 check.

im not talking about checks im talking about wires. Because there is language in the bank wire that said it has to deal with exchange rates and im not sure what Swift # to enter.

Check: $3500

Requested: 6/14
Approved: 6/15
Received: 6/19

I've had over 10 checks sent to me within the past year. Not 1 has taken over 2-3 weeks. In past 3 months, 3 checks were sent, received them all within 5 days of approval.

Last I checked (as of a couple years ago), they couldn't send wires to them. Only bank I found that would receive them was stagecoach. That said, it may've changed in the intervening time. (Stagecoach branches have been claiming it'd take weeks-long collections on checks lately...while Red-White-Blue have been clearing them instantly with no problems.)

I switched to wires because I thought checks could only be 3k.
Maybe I'll switch back if that isn't the case.
