my friend deposited two recent checks via atm (major us bank) which i believe showed up same or next day in his acct. and 4 days later (2 days ago) was debited the amount out of acct with 'atm adjust' and a code. anyone else had this happen? he's planning on going tmrw to bank and isn't sure what to expect. don't think he had never deposited via atm before, and never had any problems at all going to teller and depositing, although these checks were different than the others i believe.

Never had this happen. Checks might have bounced?

Really? 6-8 weeks? Just deposit it into the ATM. Let it take it's course. I had the bank tell me that as well.. deposited it via ATM. Cleared in 3 days!

Why are people still requesting wires when it is pretty obvious that checks are being received quickly? Seems like a big risk to take when the other option is working great at the moment.

Because the wires can still be faster and when you get them, there's no risk of bouncing...the money's there. Oh, and the max request is larger.

That said, I think that some of the recent wire problems might have to do with specific banks. When I had a wire problem back in the fall, I tried going through several banks without luck. Eventually, Bodog converted the payout to a check.

However, I did finally find an acceptable bank in December and have completed two successful wires since then.

update: friend called bank and was told foreign checks are not accepted via ATM deposit method and will be sent back the checks, which he can then go to a store in person and deposit them. so i doubt they bounced.

Stiiillll going! No wire. No $$$. Waiting on the results of the trace. Not sure why it takes so long, as it IS 2012!! Oh well- I guess this is the age of instant gratification and I just need to be patient- but it's tough!

Yeah, they sent me a message with the tracking number two days or so before the check got here. This is usually the way it goes for me.

I still haven't received a tracking number so i asked live chat earlier. Oddly, they had a tracking number ready. Its en route and should receive Mon/Tue again from far east. I suppose it was a small glitch in the system for me.

Checks for me have been coming from the same bank every time. Big known bank from a country north of the U.S

Thanks for the info Cobalt. It's the "eventually" part that I have an issue with. I sent my statement to them on Jan 26- they supposedly contacted the "payment department" last Wednesday. Still no update. When I talk to them- they just say "We are waiting for a response from our payment department." I wish they would pick up the phone, CALL the payment department, and ask them- "WTF is wrong with this wire!!!" Instead they just say "Well we sent them an email and haven't heard back yet." I'm really starting to get PO'd. And I'm sure I'm not the only one!

WHEW- good venting!!
