First state to go live is in Pennsylvania! Other states including New Jersey, Michigan, West Virginia likely to be followed.

BetRivers Poker is a spinoff of Phil Galfond's Run It Once Poker with lots of innovative features:
  • Dynamic Avatars
  • Randomized aliases (anonymous games including MTTs)
  • Built-in HUD
  • Cub3d (innovative Spins)

IIRC they have the only license in Delaware at the moment, have to imagine a launch is planned there soon too.

Good for Phil, happy for him.

GeoComply is spyware

Since online-sportsbetting and casinos are allowed in some states, but not in others, sportsbooks/casinos have to make sure you are actually in a legal state. No problem with that, but you are required to install a software called geocomply which installs on your windows machine or phone (if needed)

Now if this software only checked your location it wouldn't be a problem but it also checks for other software on your computer. You'd think it checks for ip altering software or location spoofing, but it checks for:

If it's running in a VM or not

If remote access software is installed (not in use, just installed mind you)

Remote software on your phone

If someone else is using the same device with the software installed (this is just everything I know for sure)

So this software is basically an anti-cheat for sportsbooks/casinos but it collects data even when you aren't using the websites, obviously saves your usage-data if they know someone else is using the same device aswell. I'm not sure about privacy laws in the States, but this seems extremely intrusive just to check where you are located.
I wouldn't be surprised if you are also getting this cross collaborated in some capacity similar to software like UB/AP used called ieSnare which unbelievably still seems to be in use today.

Every one of the things it checks for (and I bet it checks for even more things) can be used to “spoof” your actual location.

Hi,

I'm the Director of Marketing for BetRivers Poker (happy to provide credentials to any Mod).

A couple of things:

Thank you for trying out our platform on day 1! Sorry to hear that you ran into problems, please reach out to me if you need help troubleshooting.

On to some other items:

1.) We had a great day 1 with many players participating and enjoying all the many game offerings and stakes we have available. We had several cash game tables going at stakes that ranged all the way from $2NLHE to $1k PLO. We saw plenty of Sit and Go participation and we had a introductory slate of 9 Multi-Table tournaments that ran from start to finish.

2.) It's true however, that we're only available if you're 21+ and physically present in the state of Pennsylvania. I'm not sure if the player who has been posting in this thread meets that criteria, and I see that they're saying they had some problems with verification (although that looks sorted now), and game play. I would encourage them to reach out to me directly if there's anything remaining they need help with.

3.) I'm very proud of our support and customer service staff which won this year's EGR North America Awards. They are generally fast and efficient, and we have dedicated poker specialist support staff. Again, please message me directly if I can answer some questions for you.

4.) All USA legal online casinos and sportsbooks are required to validate that you are physically present in the state that platform you're using is licensed in before accepting a wager. Geocomply is the most popular Geolocation validating service used in the US market. The service is intended to both locate you using GPS, Wi-Fi triangulation, and IP address analysis, and provide fraud protection by detecting and blocking the use of location spoofing tools like VPNs and proxies. Between these two services, GeoComply prevents unauthorized access and fraudulent activities on sportsbook platforms. Again, Geocomply is an industry standard product, and used by many national and local online casino, sportsbook, and poker operators.

Thanks to everyone who has played with us and checked us out. We are looking forward to hearing your feedback, and expansion is part of our long term strategy and commitment to poker.

As our ambassador Phil Galfond would say: Long live poker!

I live in PA and play on all the other sites without issues. Yesterday it wasn't possible to take a seat using your Windows client for cash games. I deposited, then withdrew since I couldn't play. There was and remains zero reply from support. Despite several emails and the chat feature is broken. It's unclear when the paper check for my withdraw will process.

Regarding Geocomply -- both MGM and Stars seem to have native integrations for Windows at least that don't require players to install another application.

I was and am excited for new poker site in PA. I'm not too excited about the prospect of trying to deposit and play on BetRivers again when my funds are already tied up.
Please ping me your poker ID or email address and I'll look into your issues for you.

I would guess that you were waiting for a cash table or sit and go queue that didn't have 3+ players. Cash games require 3 players to start and SNGs fire on demand when three players are in the queue.

If you are in the Cash Game lobby you can see the number of players and the number of tables and people waiting to the right of the stake level.

If you are in the Sit and Go lobby there is a people icon on the bottom that gives a range of how many players are actively playing Sit and Gos at that stake level.

Hope this is information is helpful!

Sorry you had that experience, I'm again happy to help you out if you can ping me your poker ID or email address, we can even get you a free tournament ticket so you can give it a second try on us!

Thanks for responding and giving us the chance to help resolve this issue for you.

BetRivers was in Connecticut operating under Sugarhouse name last year. They left the state and Fanatics has since replaced them. Connecticut has legalized online poker. If only they stayed they would have been able to launch in Connecticut as well.

Really sucks to live here for online poker. The Draftkings product isn't great and I don't see them, Fanduel or Fanatics launching full poker platforms anytime soon.

Yeah I was thinking this as well about CT, but Sugarhouse was sports betting only (no online casino) so I’m not sure it would have happened either way. It sucks that we just have to wait for DraftKings or FanDuel. I think FanDuel owns PokerStars, so maybe that could happen.

We agree we could make "waiting for players" more apparent, and will work on communicating that better on tables.

We're always looking at what games we can add into the mix. The biggest part of course is making sure we have the players to support it. As we get NLHE and PLO games up and running, we'll continue to solicit feedback on what additional games and stakes our players want to see.

Thanks everyone for the input!

Jesse

I appreciate betriversX comments in here as I'm also having issues playing. Specifically the geolocation software doesnt work. I've tried adding ports 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8 with no luck.

It is good to see Jesse active. I hope they find resolution for the issues.

What tracking software, if any, can be used? Can I track my play with PT4 or Drive HUD?

You cannot download HHs yet. You can email them at the moment. They have a HUD in app.

Still needing geolocate solutions.

Thanks I see the HUD, I just wanted to track my hands. So if I email them I can import the HH’s into tracking software?

Built-in HUD?

Yea, no thanks, teaches the fish to play better and tighten up when they look at their VPIP.

Seems Bet Rivers or 2+2 don't like me.

My withdrawal from 10/31/24 is now approved. Will update when funds are received.

I tried Windows and Mac, but the software is pretty rough so I never successfully played a hand with them.

Given the customer service, slowness with funds, and crappy software -- there's no reason to use this Online Poker Site. If you live in PA, play on Stars or MGM.
Making new accounts after being banned is why you keep getting banned.

I decided to deposit. Not much traffic unfortunately, but I guess that is expected.

Took advantage of the match bonus but honestly for low-level grinders, good luck getting much of it before it expires (this is common at WSOP and PS too).

Played two tourneys, won one and cashed the other. Small fields with overlay.

They gave me two free SNG tickets but they are three-player super-turbo winner-take-all deals where the price varies. Could be up to $7,500 and they don't tell you what you're playing for until it ends, which is a different spin on things. I won them both but both were only the $10 minimum (I assume that's the minimum) which gives the casino a nice 33% rake if all players buy in. Pretty confident that happens much more often than any other amount. I generally don't like those crapshoot games so I probably would only play it again if I was really bored.

Not much traffic at the medium levels. Omaha never seems to have anyone below $100 and for some reason NLHE gets a lot of tables at $20 and some at $100 but none at $50 which is of course my preference. They also seem to have only 6-max which I also don't love (I prefer 9-handed).

Don't love the interface either but that may just be personal preference. The built-in HUD is kinda cool but the varying avatars means that you need to remember names if you want to get reads in multiple sessions. (I'm NYCNative if anyone cares).

I do like that you can pick up cash at Rivers. I pick up winnings at Harrah's in Chester for WSOP but they have no poker room so it'll be nice to pick up winnings and then play cards.

Ultimately I like WSOP better because there's more players at the games I want to play right now ($50 Omaha/$50 NLHE) there and their tournaments have more runners. Also I am am a Diamond player at Caesar's and playing WSOP helps me out in that regard.

Ultimately I am still waiting for player pools to expand to other states before I get super excited about playing more than I do, which isn't a ton, but I am still leaning towards WSOP as the place I play more than the others. But it's early...
