I would like to tell of an experience I recently had with 888 Poker and their support. I was a victim of a DDOS (distributed denial-of-service attack) on my internet while playing HU Sit and Gos. One particular player did this to me 11 times totaling $929 in Buy-Ins. He would only do this when he had a big chip deficit so my actual EV loss was probably in the $1500 range. Plus over $200 in losses in other games I was in simultaneously. This was 100% a DDOS attack. It was confirmed by my internet provider. I also talked to another player who was a victim.

So I contacted support when I suspected what was going on. They told me to send Tournament IDs. So I look through all my hand histories and sent them Tournament IDs and Hand numbers when I got disconnected. Along with the chip counts at time of disconnections. Which all ranged from about 2-1 to 24-1 in my favor. After nearly a month of email exchanges where it mostly seemed support didn't actually attempt to comprehend what I was saying, they tell me that due to privacy policies that I cannot know any details and the case is now closed.

This attacker was allowed to keep playing for 10 days after my initial email but has not played since May 13 from what I can tell. So it is possible that they at least shut down the account. The problem I have is that they should have reimbursed myself and any other victims whatever money they could retrieve from his account. If they did indeed close it. I have found out that PokerStars does reimburse players whatever they can from their balance. I am certainly not blaming 888 poker for the incident. Nothing to do with them whatsoever. So I would not expect a refund directly from them. What I am blaming them for is their incompetent support and not doing the right thing in reimbursing what they can from the scammers account.

Should also point out I am a VIP member who has payed well over 6 figures in rake the past 3 years. I am still holding out hope they will do right thing.

Any idea how the scammer got your IP? Do you use firewall or anything else to prevent it?? I agree 888 should pay you back, esp if the guy isn't playing anymore it's safe to say his account is blocked.

I am definitely very computer illiterate for someone who uses a computer as much as I do. I didn't even know what a DDOS attack was before this and had no idea it was possible for this to happen. It seems pretty clear that it had to happen through Skype. Apparently people not in your contact list can find your IP unless you manually disallow it in settings. Which seems outrageous but like I said I am not a computer expert. It is talked about here http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/18...index8186.html and many other places on here.

Kind of on the fence on whether I should or not for a couple different reasons. None of which are because I have any doubts whatsoever. But if anyone reads this and is suspicious of being a victim then send me a PM. He seemed to play almost exclusively HU Sit and Gos of all stakes but mostly on the high side.

Hey Shane. I've had similar dealings with 888 before but it was with bots and colluders. I've learned that when 888 closes accounts of cheaters, they actually let them cash out their bankroll upon closing their account so of course no refunds if you're cheated.

you mean they seize the money... 888 Rep, what does happen to the cheaters money? Do players that have been cheated back?

It doesn't get refunded to players who were cheated, no.

I thought 888 would just keep it but if they give it back to cheaters that's just really strange.

Yes, you and I actually had discussions about the bots several years ago. Leftolstoy still plays and Wormler now as well. It is hard to be 100% about it like the DDOS attack but it is extremely likely they are bots.

I think that saying it is a privacy issue as a reason for not giving any details on what happens to the cheaters is beyond ridiculous. Setting aside possible reimbursements, players who are risking their money have the right to know if they will encounter a particular cheater again. Especially when they are the ones who are responsible for helping the site get rid of the cheaters they report in the first place.

The rep here says he/she is looking into in. So hopefully they will do the right thing and I can give praise/thanks at some point. But I am not optimistic.

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28...poker-1455008/

This thread is where I found out that 888 was allowing banned accounts to withdraw their bankrolls. Cliffs on the thread are that the OP came in wondering why his account was closed and it turned out it was because he was suspected to be a bot. He posted an email that 888 sent him and it stated that his account was closed, and they were sending him his poker balance, and not to make another account etc.

Edit: my post is 219 in that thread. Unfortunately the post I was replying to with the email from 888 has a bad link now, but I can assure that is what it said.

I've been asking for months on what happens to the money that is confiscated from cheaters in both this thread and emails to 888. Unfortunately I have not got a response. I eventually gave up and that's around the time I came across that thread and everything made sense. Originally I just figured 888 kept the money, which I think is wrong, but that's their choice I suppose. But after learning that the cheater got his money back, it all made sense. Not something 888 would want to publicly state. 888rep, feel free to tell me I'm wrong and clarify what happens to the money.

To Shane, yeah I remember now. That was one of the reasons I left the HU games. Same reason as to why I don't play 6max anymore either. GL with the current situation, but like you mentioned, don't hold your breath.

Rep,

OMAHA is still UNPLAYABLE as the software is NOT recording hand histories.

I have played about 5% this year compared to last year because of this. Last year I played VIP volume.

It is a big problem because not only can we not record our own results, we can not track other player results which is important to ensure that games are SAFE and FAIR: i.e. no collusion or bots. See the bot problem that STARS currently has in their Omaha games.

Please address this issue. For now I am simply withdrawing and not playing until fixed.

Cheers

I remember about a year or a bit ago a discussion about 888's currency conversion rate being out in such a way that it was more costly to deposit your funds.

Any updates on this? Is the conversion rate up to par with Pokerstars or am I going to be shafted for depositing in AUD to USD?

This sucks It was good while it lasted. Now we have two options:
  1. Get 10$ for 1000 pts
  2. Get 10$ for 900 pts

Tough choice.
