About me

Hi, I am Darren W, Essential NLHE coach on Run It Once and Two Plus Two forums, I have played poker professionally for 8 years since 2015. I started out as an online player in 2013, 25NL on Pokerstars, then Pokerstars got banned in my country and I gradually transited to $5/$10 live games. From 2016-2022 my main stake was $5/$10 or $10/$20 and some $25/$50 for live games.

In 2017-2019 I played a lot of Pokermaster Asian apps. My winrate there was about 5.7bb/100 (untracked apps) Today I play online on a few apps which are much softer than the GGPoker type reg games. I don’t play as much volume these days as I did 3-4 years ago, so I like to spend some of the time coaching and helping others achieve their goals in poker.

In 2019 I was accepted as a coach for Run It Once and made 20+ cash game videos for Essential members. Some of my videos are live play, but in others I discuss game theory concepts such as improving on indifference, equity realisation factor and solver heuristics. In 2023, I will be producing content for GTOWizard’s blog, mainly in the articles section.

As a lot of my volume is tracked with my own spreadsheet and not on a program like PokerTracker, I only have a graph of my own combined results over the hours played (many different apps, live play, etc). If you want more proof of my results, you can PM me.




My goals as a coach:

1. Address any poker-related questions you might have. These include theory, exploitation, 3-bet/4-bet game, etc.

2. Identify and correct any underlying misconceptions/cognitive biases you may have and be unaware of. Usually we will do this in Lesson 0 with your hand history reviews, session reviews, or even a live play sweat.

3. The general syllabus:

Lesson 1 - bet sizes & frequencies - cbetting IP
Lesson 2 - ranges and gto 101
Lesson 3 - preflop
Lesson 4 - building a defense from the BB on the flop
Lesson 5 - playing OOP as the PFR in SRPs
Lesson 6 - bet sizes & frequencies - turn IP
Lesson 7 - lessons in exploitation, my grinding routine

I am still working on future lessons, but I plan to include 3bp PFR IP, 3bp PFR OOP, 3bp defense OOP, 3bp defense IP.

We can also do different topics on request, like GTO theory deep dives, BVB, 4bp, multiway, live poker adaptations like squid game, straddle, ante, 7-2. Also, we can do HH reviews, live play session reviews at any time.

4. Work with you to improve your play in specific spots that I identified.

5. Set you on the guided path to improvement and eventually success in poker.

Approach to poker

My ‘style’ is a theoretically and fundamentally sound GTO base approach to poker.

Of course, GTO is not the endgame. What’s more important is how to exploit the mistakes that are happening around you on every table. I believe you can’t exploit without having at least a basic understanding of GTO, so I place a big emphasis on fundamentals and theory.

The concepts I teach are based on fundamental poker theory and will serve you well at any stake in any game. As long as you are willing to work hard away from our sessions and come with an open mind and positive attitude, I am confident that I will be able to make a big improvement in your win-rate.
