Who am I?
Qing Yang aka QY, Elite Coach at Run It Once. I played 10/20 live for most of my career, and about 4 years ago I started coaching on the side. As of this post I’ve worked with more than 100 students, and my RIO videos are among the most well-received on the site.

What are your rates?
$200/h
$1000 for 6h
$1600 for 10h

Packages come with worksheets, pio sims, spreadsheets, as well as long term support in the form of a study group.

Who is this coaching aimed at?
Anyone who wants to improve their theoretical knowledge. I have worked with players from 1/2 live to 1knl online, and feedback has been excellent across the board. Check out my testimonials here.

What makes you different from other coaches?
To my knowledge, most coaches go over various common situations (BTN open BB call, SB 3b vs BTN call etc), and talk you through these spots individually. Instead of doing that, I focus on the underlying concepts that tie them together. For example, on AK high boards as the IP 3bettor, we cbet hands like Kx and QQ, despite them not needing much protection. Whereas for BTN open vs BB call, we prefer to play these hands as a check. The underlying concept that ties these two spots together is that marginal hands are more inclined to bet when we have a big range advantage, and identifying this will strengthen your understanding of the game as a whole.

Basically, I have managed to distill thousands of hours of solver work into a handful of key concepts, and understanding these concepts will improve your play in any spot--even the ones we don't cover.

What else do you offer?
Over the course of our sessions, you will also learn how to study with solvers more efficiently. There is a massive amount of useless information in every solve--I’ll show you how to filter out the noise, and focus on what’s important. I’ll also show you how to put theory into practice with GTO trainers, and give you a roadmap to keep improving on your own.

Isn’t $200/h a little expensive?
Frankly, $200/h is a steal. There are coaches who charge similar rates for hand reviews--imo focusing on concepts is a much more efficient way of learning, because it automatically addresses many of the hands you are not sure about.

On top of that, you’ll also be working with a well-established coach with a ton of positive reviews. Bear in mind my content has improved a lot over the years, and I have not increased my rates by that much.

If you want a better idea of what to expect, you can check out my videos on RIO. I have 10 videos from my time as an Essential coach that you’ll be able to access for $25/mo. Whether or not you are planning to sign up, I recommend watching these 10 videos as an extremely cost-efficient way of building good fundamentals.

You can also check out my Youtube channel, although the content there is a bit more basic.

Cheers, and don’t hesitate to leave a comment or PM if you have any questions! You can also contact me by filling in a form on my website.

Update: Rates are now
$320/h
$1700 for 6h
$2500 for 10h

I really liked all of your RIO videos. They are by far best ones esp for essential subscription.

Prices are bit too high for me atm, but hopefully one day

Glad to see you post in strategy and theory forum, hope you'll continue to do that.

Update - 4 days later we just had our first session. Ending up booking 6 hours total. I'm already 100% sure it was a good investment to help me transition from full time MTT to cash(Or at least mixing cash games into my schedule)

There was no hand history review, we got right into theory. Qing explained why we need a solid understanding of the theory to be able to exploit.

Were gonna do a session a week as I begin to apply some of these new to me concepts. I will update in the future.

I'm just getting back into playing but once I get more hands in, I'm quite interested. How many hands in a database would you like to see from a player you're coaching to get a good feel for leaks and areas for most improvement? Thanks-

Hey, personally I don’t do database analysis. Instead my aim is to give you a solid grasp of theory, and show you how to use it to better exploit your opponents. It might not be as effective at plugging short term leaks, but I believe that this approach is best in terms of longterm development.

That said, I have worksheets and quizzes prepared for every session, and they usually give me a good idea of any misconceptions you might have.

Hit me up whenever you’re ready!

Got it, thanks for the clarification! I'd personally like that approach. Will be in touch in the new year, thanks!

Had an hour few days ago and I must say this has been my best coaching experience so far, absolutely knows what he is talking about, explains concepts easily and gives good guidance how to proceed on your own + super fun guy, don't forget to check the youtube content also.

Just finished my coaching package with Qing. He does a great job of improving your poker IQ by distilling the reasons for why we play spots a certain way into simple key concepts that you'll quickly notice apply to many other situations as well. The lessons were well structured with no fluff, and the vibe was efficient but also nicely relaxed and positive. Qing was also very available and thorough in answering messages between sessions, both to clarify what we'd discussed but also to share his thoughts on other theory questions. Overall I'm very pleased with the coaching and definitely recommend working with him.

Update: Just finished our 6 hour package. We did one session a week(postponed 2 weeks when i was unavalible)

Coaching was well worth the money. Really helped me with my understanding a theory and why we play this way. Im going to take a couple weeks off and do some drills and study on my own and book another package.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to increase their gto knowledge

Ah I just missed messaging you before the rate increase! I was going to message you last week but I'm trying to iron out a mental game leak before I do.

Any chance of a sale similar to your black friday sale at some point before next Christmas?

No worries, we can go by the old rate since you only missed it by a day. Do you have Skype or Discord? PM me your username and I’ll add you

I just finished my 10-hour-package with QY. I really enjoyed working with him. he is not the type of coach who teaches you the exact strategy. Instead, he teaches you how to study with solver and how to think about strategies. you may think its too expensive to hire someone teach you how to read solver, but trust me, it would save you tons of study time and make your study process much more efficient. However, keep this in mind, since he doesn't spend much time teaching you the exact strategy, you will need to study a lot yourself to build your own strategy, don't expect to hire him to become a great player right after the sessions. (I don't think any coach can do that anyway). he teaches you how to fish, and you need to catch the fish yourself.

pros:
1. sessions are well constructed
2. QY answers all the questions. it can be related to the session or any poker questions in general

cons:
1. the package is expensive(I would not consider it expensive as hiring a coach, most coaches charge $150-$200 per session. but comparing to the $100 RIO membership or all the free materials you can get online, its quite expensive.) Still, I'm glad I decided to spend the extra money, because it saved me a ton of time compared to studying on my own

When I decided to start working with a coach coming back to poker after years away I took a lot of time to research my options. I wanted someone who would not only help me understand game theory but also help me take that information and use it practically in the games I was playing.

After my 10 hours of sessions, QY didn’t just meet my expectations, he exceeded them by far. Through his years of extensive solver study and playing poker, he’s created an entire unique poker curriculum to teach his students how to think for themselves. He has developed an approach that takes his students through the most common poker spots, drilling them to fully understand the GTO aspects, and then taking that poker theory and using it in practice to exploit opponents to the fullest extent.

His coaching approach isn’t to use him as a crutch, always needing him to help think for you. His approach is that of a springboard, giving you the tools to think and study on your own, so you can confidently use modern solver technology to learn how to exploit your opponents and make the most money in any NLHE game you find yourself in. And after the coaching sessions are over he’s still always there to answer questions either in his private poker study group or one on one when you do need more guidance.

And most importantly he’s a very kind, professional and super nice guy to work with. I can’t think of a better way to invest your money if you want to seriously work on improving your poker game.

Hi,I just finished my 10-hour-package with QY.This is my oponion about his service:

-heÂ’s a very kind, super nice guy to work with and prepare professional on next session after receive a question.
-he only tech what he specializ -> you not doubt about quality of his package.
-He have very good tech skill compare some other coach i have previous. He can explain complex topic to easier (you can check this on his you tube ). He preprae well and he allwasy have a bunch of questions to make your brain active on this topic focus session. After answer this and compare what right answer is help me change alot about thinking poker
-IMO if you play poker longtime and want move up -> spend money on theory session better than to review some random hand (it may be good for new player )

-With pio sim, spreadsheet (preflop and postflop) is good invest ( it saved me a ton of time )
Recommend for anyone want improve NLHE Theory!

Just finished the 10-pack with QY. I had been studying with Pio for ~1 year prior and this was my first coaching experience. I'm glad I pulled the trigger on coaching, which helped me learn fundamental NLHE theory and how to study. For example, I learned about how to use several features in Pio I didn't know existed and gained new insights into how to interpret the outputs. QY provided toy game and practical examples, along with a library of sims to practice drilling. Each session had a sense of direction and was quite dense with content and ideas. I highly recommend QY!
