I want to post an update here on behalf of Dumbo.

About 6 months ago I replied to this thread with how he has helped me take my game from a losing player to a ~ $45/hr PLO5 player (with some of my own justifications of course).

Over the span of the last 6 months, Dumbo has been my biggest positive influence in improving my game and it seems as his game gets better, mine does too. I am currently in the middle of my best month ever, and have not experienced a losing month yet this year. My $45 an hour has gone up, up, up.

Thinking about it financially, if you take one buy in ($500) and spend 5 hours over the span of a month or two working with him, you’ll easily get more of a reward than that one buy in can bring you elsewhere.

The price of coaching sessions from Dumbo will not become any cheaper and it’s reasonable to assume that it may become even more expensive in the near future. Although I personally don’t want the games to get any tougher, I can with great certainty attest that Dumbo is qualified to help you become a better PLO5 / NLH player.

I had a great 1 hr session and it was money well spent. Do plan to have few more sessions.

As to his credentials have watched him play live and he is a consistent winner and certainly knows what he is talking about.

I have since added even more content to the guide, including helpful practice pointers, mental game advice, and concluding remarks. It runs around 20 pages now, but I am keeping the price the same ($25), which is pretty reasonable given the dearth of solid PLO5 written content out there. Got the book recently and was pleasantly surprised. I've read a lot of poker books in my time and this is as good as any of those. Their is a good skeleton here to flesh it out and make it an actual book that would not feel out of place on a shelf at Barnes & Nobles. For the price and the quality of the material it gets 5 stars from me.

I'm a new PLO 5 card player. After buying Dumbo's eBook it taught me everything I needed to know about the game. Went from dumping 4-5k every month to winning that much every month and I only play on weekends!

Many of the concepts in the guide would apply to online games as well, yes. A lot of the advice is pretty exploitative and assumes seeing the flop multi-way which occurs more often in live games, but certainly in some softer online games as well.

I had a coaching session yesterday with DumbosTrunk. We talked about poker over dinner and I played a session with him. He sent me his book as well and I think that reviewing it first is probably the best way to understand his approach to poker and by extension coaching.

The book sets a solid foundation for a tight aggressive approach to the game. All of the information is essential to being a winning PLO5 card player. A lot of it is intuitive, but it does a great job of explaining what isn't. It's not a deep dive into exploitative play or high level thinking but the reason for that is because the games this book is designed to help you beat are full of recreational players. He teaches how to value your hand strength, which is something the recreational players simply do not know how to do. It also goes over how to use important blockers to make decisions.

We played a session together for about 5 hours and I can tell he's a winning player in the game. It was a super soft game, with some LAGgy players putting in a lot of bets. Thats the regular game. Thats the game this book will teach you to beat. I believe a winrate of over $100 an hour is achievable in that game and if that's what you want to play Dumbo will be able to give you excellent advice on how to beat it. I don't know how well Dumbo adjusts to tougher lineups but I'm assuming that because he plays the level he does that he's more comfortable making easier decisions at lower stakes.

If you're new to PLO5 and want to play it in a live environment his coaching/book is more than worth its value.

Lately I’ve gotten some students who play in my room, either visiting or local. They get several added benefits as part of their coaching with me.

If we are at the same table they can receive instant feedback after the hand, both hands they play and that I play.

Newbie plo question, how applicable is plo 5 to regular plo? Obviously I have general concepts of playing, but have only played it a little over a year not very seriously and see so much more potential in even 4 card.

There are some differences. The equities are not exactly the same preflop and postflop with different hand classes, made hands, and draws. Having the underfull or trips in plo4 isn’t the same as in plo5, for instance JJ6 with 66 versus Jx.

Also aces have less equity preflop in five card than four card. My guide doesn’t go over all these differences, because it is geared towards plo5, but I do go over just a few obvious ones in my sessions with my students coming from a four card background as I myself don’t have a ton of experience with plo4, I am mainly a five card player.

And you’re right, plo is a great game you can do quite well in, better than in other games like hold em. That is, if you can weather the variance.

Always been a lurker and never really made an account to comment anything.
However, recently I've decided to become more serious and invested into PLO5 since in my area that's what they offer.
Played Fold'em for maybe 2-3 years prior and it felt like the game became stagnant after a certain point.

Saw that one of the top players in my poker room was offering coaching and a written guide specifically for PLO 5 card which sparked my interest.

I bought the guide and I'll be honest it's boosted my win rate up by a very considerable amount and I'll give consideration to me running good as well, but the guide itself definitely gave me ideas and a foundation to build off of. That's what guides are meant for anyways imo, you read them and build your own play style.

Definitely will be getting some coaching lessons soon when we can coordinate with our schedules.

In the meantime the guide is 100% +EV for such a cheap price as well lol, grab it.
It's the price of one hand anyways.
