"“I think what’s really surprising about the company right now is that they appear to be making the same mistakes. Launching games too quickly, not doing enough consumer research on their games and pushing them out — the same mistakes that [former CEO] Mark Pincus was making when he was leading Zynga.”"

How can you not milk a cow with 32 million registered users?

This is how PokerStars competition looks like... they're all amateurs.

It's so sad

yea thats pretty pathetic if you ask me. at the same time however that have alot of players willing to pay real money for fake chips. So they are not really losing, i guess they just feel it would lower their profit margins spending money to get licensed in nevada and then have to deal with more operational costs all awhile trying to build a profitable business.

Don Mattrick is one smart operator and notoriously ruthless. I doubt he let go of the real money poker with seeing some seriously unreasonable barriers to entry that were ahead. He single handedly rescued Microsoft's gaming effort and before that was responsible for a huge part of EA's success.

They were my last hope for that second poker boom, gg online poker, and with amaya up front I guess online poker will continue downhill, only Semi-good for tourneys I guess.

Not sure I see how Zynga offering poker(real money) would spark a 2nd boom, wouldn't legal issues state x state and country x country stifle them just as it has the current Poker Room Operators.

For example....in the USA......only NJ, NV, and Delaware residents would be able to play ????

Its prolly cuz the poker market is saturated in places like the UK where they are free to do business and then in regulated areas like the US it's just not that lucrative yet to take the risk. I wonder how other regulated markets are doing in terms of competition of poker rooms like in France, ITaly, whatever place regulated it. I wouldnt be surprised if it looked kinda like how the US is although it seems the Scanis got it right some how but maybe they didnt even regulate it? No clue....

I had high expectations for this. Imo it never took off because of marketing. I'm not even sure there was any marketing of any kind at all?

Their success probably relies heavily on the success of a regulated market in the USA. Seeing their exit makes me thnk that it won't be happening on a large enough scale to matter anytime soon.

USA players just need to sit back and relax and play our unregulated sites because it's all we're going to have for a long time.

Best thing we can probably do is hold off adelson on passing any legislation that will be too damaging to reverse and recover from before he dies.

They really screwed up a big opportunity lol

However, it does seem that the effort put into opening and running a real money gambling website may not actually be worth it at this point in time.

There might not have been "enough" marketing, but getting people to transition from play money chips to real money is notoriously difficult. There are millions of users of Pokerstars Play on facebook/mobile, but it's not just governments/regulators stopping them from switching to real money games. People like free entertainment. They don't like paying for things they can get for free.
In addition, anyone playing on Zynga that was considering transitioning to real money didn't need to wait for Zynga to offer it. Most poker players had already heard of Pokerstars. A marketing campaign doesn't create additional demand if the market is already saturated.

Goes to show how difficult it is for companies to convert play money players into rake generators.

you guys are ridiculous there was zero chance Zynga was gonna succeed in the gambling world. Yes they had alot of play money players but its one thing to be a gaming company then to be a gambling gaming company. I had zero faith in them. If you look at their software that they had to compare the other gaming companies it was downright pathetic. Heck paradise poker software would've been better than zynga.
