It's hard to feel too sorry for the all time tourney winner, Bryn Kenney, but 2nd in chips(just barely) to Alex Foxen and this hand happens:

https://www.pokernews.com/news/2021/...oler-39398.htm

On Monday, 240 players returned for Day 2ab with Bryn Kenney, tournament poker's all-time money leader, and his stack 376,500 leading the way. Coming in with the seventh-largest stack of 295,500 was Alex Foxen. Eventually, the latter was moved to the former's table and a hand for the ages would go down.

At the time, Foxen had chipped up into the chip lead ever so slightly over Kenney, who appeared to still be the other big stack in the room. That is when the two poker superstars had a head-on collision. The hand took place early in Level 12 (1,500/2,500/2,500) when Kenney raised preflop and Foxen called from the hijack. The players on the button and in the big blind came along and it was four-way action to the {a-}{a-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop.

The big blind checked, Kenney continued for 9,000, and only Foxen called to see the turn, which was another {3-}.

Kenney bet again, this time 10,000, and Foxen just called to see a {q-} complete the board on the river.

This time Kenney checked and Foxen over-bet the pot to the tune of 112,000. Kenney woke up with an all-in check-raise to approximately 240,000, and Foxen, who barely had the bigger stack, snap-called.

Kenney tabled {a-}{q-} for aces full of queens, but it was no good as Foxen rolled over {3-}{3-} for quads.

With that, Kenney was eliminated while Foxen pulled in the largest pot of the tournament thus far (by a wide margin) chipping up to 650,000.

disappointing. Expected a random bad beat story unappropriately posted in nvg. I am really dispappointed. Way to clickbait

Only loosely related, but I've long thought the Bad Beat Jackpot has always been a misnomer. Although a BBJ-winning hand certainly can run out as a bad beat, it's always more of a cooler.

I know there shouldn't be strategy talk in NVG, but what do people think of Kenney's initial check on the river? I guess the notion is that Foxen will fold anything less than Ax there, but would either possibly bluff or would value bet a weaker aces full, correct? Shows what a donk I still am: especially in the moment, my mind would be going "me haz good hand me must bet."

Wow. A player who was behind preflop, on the flop, and on the turn lost at the river.

Wow.. I thought I ran bad until I heard about this hand that the all time money list leader lost. Sure wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

Would only have been threadworthy if Kenney had said "Acez fool, alexy", KGB style, and Foxen had lived out the dreams of Rounders nitpickers since the dawn of time and slammed down quads

this hand is the first definitive proof of existence of God, as random chance couldn't possibly be this cruel

I don't think I've ever broken 20 seconds in the 100m sprint so I definitely run worse than almost everyone.

BK probably cared less about this than OP (I'm assuming he did the same "session warm-up" as for his appearance on "High Stakes Poker")

If you read the story slow, inhale the tenseness of the money up top, the two players who don’t make mistakes that often, it’s a pretty good story.
I don’t know if it was GTO, what each players bb/100 or the percentage of time Bryn should have bet or what the solver said. Bahahahaha
