I’m pretty sure they would be…what are the odds of her/him being a winning player with such an ROI? Prob still a decent chance with such a low sample size…all the money is at the top…

They would be described as a professional. I needed someone well known who would show up in the chip counts at the end of day 1 or in the reporting. The 2015 WSOP was a little time consuming because they didn't do the reporting on PokerNews but on WSOP.com. They didn't have a section for chip stacks but they did do live reporting that was easily to scrape through. Easy enough to do a name search to find out if they were in the event.

Big issues going forward would be the reentry events and bounties to get an accurate count. If you are a name pro or even borderline show up everyday player, you could build a database and get a rough idea of how they've done at the WSOP if you really wanted to.

IMHO the real value at the WSOP used to be the one table satellites.
Low % rake, soft fields, quick and lower variance than MTT's
Additional edges when you can negotiate advantageous equity chops when playing someone who is scared money.
I don't think many players win long term in MTT's especially with the disadvantageous US tax laws on gambling winnings.
Don't confuse outliers with having an edge.

Hey Atarirob, very interesting endeavor. Like you said, it only works for people that are famous enough to be frequently listed in chip counts / live reporting, but that covers a decent number of people.

I think this could automated. I would consider coding something myself for fun, but I'm sure people would scream at me about tapping the glass

Yeah, really good update to the thread.

Not sure if there is a database anymore similar to hendonmob but including non-cash events. I would be happy to chip in on a community effort data analysis on stats.

I only have masters stats level though so PhD people can shoot down my incompetence

This is from 2019-2012, this all started when he was told he wasn't profitable in a 10k. This is how Mike has faired in the last 7 years in the 10k's

that's only 51 events so not a huge sample. Here is everything he has played.

That's why I don't see myself going hardcore into this. The amount of hate isn't worth it, but it could be done.

Once upon a time there was site by Andy Glazer that used to do very detailed reports about the WSOP. This ran from 95-2000, he would do detail write ups about each event and give info about who won the mega satellite. All named pros used to play them. This was back when they only ran 20 events.

Something I'm now curious to try, I'd like to see the person I did who plays a full schedule with the rake setup from 95-2000. It used to be $1,500+60, $2,500+60, $5000+80 and the main event was no rake. I can see the rake increased by $10 in 2000, another $10 bucks in 2001, and by 2002 they started taking the rake out of the $1500. Hmmm, might be fun to try that.
