Srsly, he's a shortstack, gets AA, raise behind, shove and hope for a call imo. Like you say tho, he prolly does get called by top pair on the flop, but still much more risky play than a shove.
Guys, I think it's time for us all to admit that we have out-clevered ourselves in Leveltown lately.

I am not saying that the last several posts defending Hellmuth's flat were or were not levels. I am saying there is so much damned leveling around here that I cannot tell if these are levels or not (which I'm sure is the goal, but, well, ok--you win).

Regardless, this hand is the freakin poster child for NOT SLOWPLAYING ACES. No, this is not results-oriented thinking. You're short. There's money in the middle already, there are plenty of people behind you with deeper stacks, and you'll likely get the one call you wanted from the original raiser.

He pushes there, and he's likely sitting on $300K or more. He flats there, and he's either on the rail or maybe sitting on $500K if the plan goes perfectly.

i'll take 300K @ 80-20 vs. 500K @ 30-70 anyday

There was another hand where he folded TT face up to a crai on the flop getting like 1.7-1 on a 986 board.

Think he needs to get allin with the set unless it is real likely someone has a made straight.

He's still in it with a decent stack, so he must do something right.

yes running up a stack in a tournament is really difficult
07-12-2009 , 11:17 AM
I think it's awesome that he mentions two to a flush as an argument for folding. At least I think that's what he's doing.

Well he finished 3rd last year and he's done better than about 6000 runners so far this year. At some point you have to give him some credit.

PokerStars has to be happy about its team's performance this year. Raymer will get a lot of TV time in the 40k, McEvoy won the Champions Invitational, and Eastgate/Phillips/Hachem/ElkY are all deep in the ME.

Some notables and big names still in and doing well:

Jordan Morgan 1.48 mil
Blair Hinkle 1.3 mil
Phil Ivey 1.2 mil
ElKy 1.2 mil
Theo Tran 1 mil
Blair Rodman 798k
Tom Schnieder 797k
Nick Shulman 746k
Dan Harrington 659k
Chris Bjorin 546k
Jordan Smith 502k
Joe Sebok 502k
Antonio Esfandiari 496k
Joe Hachem 490k
Prahlad Friedman 484k
Kenny Tran 415k
Dennis Phillips 414k
David Benyamine 405k
Peter Eastgate 397k
Ken Saul 396k
Scott Sitron 378k
Andy Black 374k
Jeff Shulman 314k
Bobby Baldwin 212k
JC Tran 163k

Average chip count looks to be maybe 400-500K, just by glancing at the stacks and number of people left (?) If so, alot of pros left in decent-good position. Soome short stacks but some early good fortune can turn that around quick.

This would be so so sick if some of those real big names like Ivey, Elky, Eastgate or Benyamine went seriously deep, even better if one could make a final table, as unlikely as it is

He finished third after a complete meltdown shoving with trash down to the final three in the ME with a more than healthy stack, thus showing his lack of discipline and patience. If he's worked on that an other aspects of his game then more power to him. Looks to be doing quite well as mentioned.

Jeff Shulman, Elky and Andy Black @ the same table starting day 5. I'm smelling a featured table or at least some heavy TV time.

Go Ivey and Esfandiari
07-12-2009 , 12:05 PM
Also, is this not the same person?

Esfandiary, Amir 322,000 B20 5

Esfandiari, Antonio 496,000 O89 9

Antonio's real name is Amir, amirite?

Multi-tabeling (accounting)?

I think it's quite a common Iranian name.

I gotta think Ivey can make the final table. He seems locked in. When that happens he just takes over and even when he gets unlucky he gets lucky...

Hard to say anyone will make the final table but you gotta like his chances if anyone's...
07-12-2009 , 12:14 PM
ivey v trex hu imo

Well, look, the guy's an amateur.

Any final table is going to involve situations and concepts that are difficult even for many of the people on this forum, much less somebody who's only faced the situation a handful of times and doesn't know the maths anyway.

I can only go from the TV coverage, but he got his stack by making ballsy moves in good spots, which is the way to pwn MTTs and GET deep. Now maybe he was actually playing randomly and just luckboxed the good spots, but until proven differently, I'm gonna go ahead and respect that part of his game.

Being a good closer in MTTs is a different story, though, and very difficult to get good at without a whole bunch of study, discussion, and experience.

Dan Harrington making another final table would be pretty sick.
