Yea, it starts to focus more on the contenders after the first 2 days. Most of the day 1-2 coverage (including 1a-1d and 2a-2b) is centered around the name players and their eventual bustouts.

I think it's great TV though. Everyone talks about Moneymaker as the poker boom's catalyst, but ESPN deserves some of the credit. They found the winning formula in 2003. That year's coverage blows their 2002 coverage out of the water. The difference in entertainment value is night and day.

Jason Alexander is one of the chip leaders, for the first day, that would be sweet if he could make a run.

Straight Flush No Good for Danzer

We caught this hand as the chips were being counted on the river.

Patrik Danzer held 8-9- on a board of 5-7-A-10-J-. Unfortunately for him, that wasn't good enough to win as his opponent, Christian Jeppsson held K-Q- for the royal.

Danzer still has his starting stack of 30,000 while Jeppsson has 50,000.
I was at this table when this happened, pretty funny.

Mike Sexton Hits Straight Flush

After a flop of and with 12,600 in the pot, Mike Sexton moved all in. His opponent agonized over the decision as a camera crew rushed over. Just as they arrive, he made the call. Sexton: Opponent: The turn put Sexton in the lead when , giving him a flush. His opponent got up from his chair, screaming "Pair the board! Pair the board!" However, it would not be his day, as the hit the river, giving Sexton a straight flush. Mike Sexton - 38,000

was at this table and this hand was pretty lol

150/300, I raised UTG to 850 with AQ, Mike calls with 45dd in the CO, dude in BB calls in BB with 33.

Flop 2d 3d 5x

Pots like 3k, BB donks for like 5k with at most 8k behind, I fold, Mike ships

Comes back to dude whos GOT A ****IN SET getting like 3-1 with like half his stack in and he goes into the tank like its the toughest decision in the world. After like 3 mins we're all like wtf does he have and the guy next to him comes over to me and is like he has a set. Im like no ****in way wtf is he slowrolling him, dudes like yea I saw his cards hes def got a set of 3s. He finally calls and loses, lol ****** karma

At least he saved $90K of buy-ins by not playing the $40K and $50K

Day 1a Official Numbers

We've just received word that the official number of entrants for Day 1a is (drumroll please...) 1,116 entrants.

By comparison, 1,297 players entered the Main Event on Day 1a in 2008, 1,287 played Day 1a in 2007 and 2,138 played Day 1a in 2006.

I was at the table with him and brad garret. It was probably the softest table I've played at since party poker 2005. Of course I busto'd shortly after the dinner break.

The board filled out and Kalusal took out the small blind, doubling up to just over 60,000.

from wsop.com

This hand makes like zero sense.
Did sb put in around 30bb pre flop with 43s?
Did he make a huge overbet?

It was probably a limped pot with 4bets on the flop, right?
Stacking off with trips no kicker 300bb deep in a limped pot, weee.
my friend was actually the guy who ''folded'' under the gun.

The action was actually check bet raise call reraise and then they got their stacks in, with my friend folding.

also, am I missing something or is it said nowhere how many people were eliminated on 1a?
