Jack Links mascot just gave the "shuffle up and deal" command for day 1a.

Who will be this year's Tiffany Michelle? What will someone call Hellmuth with that will set him off? Has anyone busted out yet?

Let's gogogogogo.

Early All in for Ray Masters

Ray Masters raised to 300 from the cut off and the small blind reraised to 1,000. The big blind smooth called and Masters moved all in for 30,000.

The small blind tanked for about two minutes before releasing his hand. The big blind mucked quickly and Masters took down the pot.
LOL donkaments

Jonas Kalusal Doubles Up With Full House
After a flop of 7h 4h 4c the small blind bet 7,800 and a player under the gun folded. Jonas Kalusal raised all in and the small blind called. Small blind: 4d 3d Kalusal: 7c 7d
The board filled out and Kalusal took out the small blind, doubling up to just over 60,000.

from wsop.com

This hand makes like zero sense.
Did sb put in around 30bb pre flop with 43s?
Did he make a huge overbet?

It was probably a limped pot with 4bets on the flop, right?
Stacking off with trips no kicker 300bb deep in a limped pot, weee.

from poker news main event reporting log :
Okay, we may have spoken too soon. Despite the striking resemblance to the aforementioned star of television and screen, it may not be her after all. There's still a raging debate among the media, but it appears we've just spotted a very attractive lady who is not Mila Kunis. We weren't alone in thinking (hoping) it was her though; our own boss is on the hook for $500 if it turns out to be someone else.
hum i still think that lady isMila but whatever ...that's cool....

very sick hand....
from poker news main event reporting blog:

Straight Flush No Good for Danzer

We caught this hand as the chips were being counted on the river.

Patrik Danzer held 8-9- on a board of 5-7-A-10-J-. Unfortunately for him, that wasn't good enough to win as his opponent, Christian Jeppsson held K-Q- for the royal.

Danzer still has his starting stack of 30,000 while Jeppsson has 50,000.

Here are the storylines that will be featured in ESPN's coverage:

- Will FORMER CHAMPION repeat? (Insert: Moneymaker, Chan, Scotty, Raymer, Hachem, Doyle, Hellmuth, etc). ESPN will probably be obligated to give Eastgate some TV time because he was last year's champ, but they probably won't build an entire episode around him because he's dreadfully boring. Expect to see a Hellmuth episode. We get one every year. Expect to see an episode dedicated to someone like Scotty, Moneymaker, Hachem or Raymer since they're among the more entertaining former champs.

- Will BIG NAME POKER BOOM PRO finally win the big one? (Insert: Negreanu, Ivey, Hansen, Harman, Matusow, Greenstein, etc). Expect to see a Negreanu episode. Expect to see some of the other usual suspects featured. Ivey is an obvious choice because he's the biggest star in the game, but he's not very entertaining at the table. We're more likely to see Hansen and Matusow featured because they're among the more entertaining "name" players who achieved notoriety during the poker boom. I'm hoping for a durrrr episode, but we might not be that lucky because he's not a made man on ESPN yet like Negreanu, Hellmuth, and Matusow.

In between the two featured storylines that form the backbone of each episode, there will be the inevitable sprinkling of:

- Stories about people with handicaps (the blind guy, the guy with no arms, Jerry Yang, etc)
- Celebrity appearances (Tobey Maguire, Ben Affleck, Ray Romano, Chuck Lidell, etc)
- Sentimental stories (the guy with the sick wife, the guy who emigrated from a dangerous country, the guy whose parent recently passed away, etc)
- Random odd characters (the loud guy, the really old guy, people with obnoxious outfits, etc)
- WSOP stars (Hevad Khan, Humberto Brenes, Marcel Luske, etc)

what was day 1a entries last year>
07-03-2009 , 11:07 PM
I looked it up myself. last years day 1a was much higher.

From pokernews 2008 recap.....

Day 1A kicked off with the fanfare of Wayne Newton offering the customary "Shuffle up and deal!" while the UNLV marching band played "Viva Las Vegas." The first flight of Day 1 players totaled 1,297 and was expected to be the smallest of the four flights. Many players chose the coming days of the long holiday weekend as their start date and mega-satellites are still in play. The total number of starting players and prize pool won't be known until after the fourth flight takes the field on Sunday.

Now that's higher, but not much higher.
