Seebs climbing back to 345k. Says he will not give up no matter what.

Dennis Phillips in the top 40 in chips with 100 left. After all the bashing he took from NVG tards over that AK hand last year, would be absolutely amazing if he could FT the Main Event back-to-back.

Was just thinking this, not enough love for a realistic chance for a back to back champion. Would be pretty crazy.

Looks like play is finally going to slow down.

Goooo brits! Jeff Duval, Jamie Brown, James Akenhead and erm, Peter Eastgate

Althought Ivey winning might be like moneymaker movement all over again.

I was pretty impressed with the way Phillips regrouped last year after the awful start to the final table.

Luckychewy/Ivey HU would all-time epic hof

There will never ever be another Moneymaker Effect again, and it doesn't matter if a complete unknown or Phil Ivey wins the WSOP. (Although I suppose it might have helped if Obama had played the seat somebody bought for him.) The only boom possibility is full US legalization.

he deserved every bit of bashing he got for that hand, it was horribly played.

but yes, would be impressive if he final tabled again.

eastgate knocks hellmuth down to third youngest to win the main event

Why would Ivey, one of the world's best and most successful high stakes players, have a similar effect if he won as Moneymaker, the average joe accountant who qualified from a $40 on-line satellite? It seems to me that someone like Ivey winning would have just the opposite effect on the poker masses, and could actually be bad for the game. I'm thinking we need a Chinese Moneymaker, but I doubt there's anyone left in the field who fits that description.

+1.
moneymaker effects will only take off in countries that havent had a poker boom. not sure why people seriously think that there are tens or hundreds of thousands of fishes just waiting to be told to play poker in the usa. If they havent worked out by now that they can play poker online, they never will.

the wsop main event is going to get even more concentrated with talent in the next few years - and i reckon it's gonna make for better TV

well it's not *that* realistic actually, he's got less than one-half of one percent of the chips in play

Yes, couldn't agree more.

Phillips with over 2 million and Eastgate with close to a million.

They're approaching a Raymeresque repeat run with a chance at Harrington's back to back Final Tables.

Not to mention Eastgate's bid to repeat.

These two and Ivey's run, considering his two bracelets wins, are the story of the 2009 ME so far for me.

Final table with Phillips, Eastgate, Sebok, Ivey. One time.

this would be the sickest win in ME history.... last time obv was Jonny Chan, and the field was like 3% what it is now

also, Dennis Phillips needs more love after the absolute bashing he took for the AK v AQ hand and for the ridonkulous article he wrote about what he thought was fold equity..... obviously, understanding FE isn't a prerequisite to making B2B deep runs in the ME.

Are there really any people out there who haven't played poker that are going to turn on the TV and start playing because Bum #5420 won instead of Ivey? For the most part I don't think who wins matters anymore, barring a woman.

Steve Sanders listed as having 1,850,000. Didn't the Walsh family have to get him out of trouble over a gambling debt back in the day? Guess that life lesson didn't stick.
